Why was I under the impression that the current 4 series was done?

Now I look like an idiot to a few clients who I told this Gen was done.

To me, that color is still SOII but darker. It's not even a true red color at all. I'd rock it still but not on a M4.

I don't get why the 4-series staggers behind the 3-series by two years. The new body style will be out for two years (19 and 20) before the car finishes production...

So the 4 series is going to have a 1.5 year run as a 2020 model?

This makes no sense. This car is now a dated model. The 3 series ended as a 2018 model. The 4, being a model year long, should end as a 2019 model. But to stretch it out like this, I think it's a bad idea.

Yup. The M4 is continuing into next year also. That's how this works. The F30 3 series was released a year (give or take) before the F32 4 Series. BMW generally gives models a seven year run. So, the G20 comes first and then the G22 a year or so later.

I'm so confused. I thought M3 and M4 production had ended 2 months ago. Am I missing something?

Dated? How so? What more does the G20 have to offer?

You must be new to BMW I guess? BMW never lunched all variants at the same time.

Staying on top of this thread is really the single best thing you can do to keep yourself educated about current BMW product timelines:

https://bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=901686

Regarding the 4 Series and M4 continuing on into 2020, BMW products (with rare exceptions) have a seven year cycle. And since the launch of the 3 Series (now 4 Series) coupe has always trailed the launch of the sedan by about a year and a half, so too does its end of production.

I've never looked at my LCI M4 and thought "damn I wish those tails were darker." I guess I'll have to see the LCII's tails in the flesh. I do love that black/SO interior combo. I would have been all over that had it been available in 2019.

There isn't a huge difference by any means. Below, screenshots from the 2017 LCI reveal vs 2020 cosmetic enhancements. You can see the taillights being slightly darker. These are BMW renders, it might be more obvious in real life.
