Tune And Down Pipes

So I have reached out to Tune Tech FS. I asked about Down Pipes And a Tune. I was quoted 1425 for the tune and 850 for the downpipe. Active Autowerke Down Pipes, and afterwards I would be adding about 70whp delta should be about 500whp. Is this a good deal? Its my first BMW trying to cover all my basis. Thanks! P.S I have a M4 MG F83

If that's everything installed it's not a bad deal at all. Plus "Frank Smith" is a very reputable BMW tuner with decades of experience under his belt with an in house dyno room too. I'd build a repore with him since he's so local to you too, he can help you with many things down the road.

You don't want to take your $80K+ car just ANYwhere to save a couple bucks, stick with the reputable shops ... TTFS is one of them*

Like said above Frank is legit and stands by his tunes. Also, I assume these prices include labor and that's pretty typical for a tune install. Removal of the DME, jailbreak and reinstall is roughly a 4 hour process alone. Plus he can tailor it to anything you want.

Re downpipes: I'd personally go with VRSF or set of used "premium" brand downpipes like ER. They're just a stupid pipe and install is typically rated at 2hrs of labor by most shops. Ed @ Induktion Motorsports did mine.

To reiterate the above I don't think that's too bad. Frank has an absolute badass setup and he is a no bullshit guy which is tough to find in this day and age. You may not like his answers to everything but he doesn't sugarcoat stuff just to make you feel good. Giving people real world info is rare but valuable. He and his team we very accommodating when EAL setup the dyno day. It was a lot of fun for sure.

$1,500 for a tune is crazy. does that include the price of a tuning device?

$1500 for a tune is pretty typical. I'm sure the price Frank gave includes the labor.

i'm comparing it to the cost of general tuning of cars. $1,500 for a tune is on the very high side. call it the m tax or whatever, but $1,500 is high. maybe not high specific to m4, but high in comparison to the cost of tuning most cars.

may want to also check out the thread where bmw has not updated their software to identify when a car has been tuned and note it in the system for future warranty concersn

$1500 is a good deal IMO...DME uninstall, flash, DME reinstall, dyno tune on actual rollers. I say go for it. Sounds about what he quoted us when we did dyno day. Frank and TTFS is good people.

I will also second Frank for his tune over anything else available for the F8X platform. I don't plan to tune my F80 for a while, but when the time comes, my car will go to Frank. His tune has certain features for the F80 that other tuners don't have. Talk to him and you will find out what I am talking about. He currently is finishing up a very special and unique tune on my E46 M3 supercharged track car (the one in my sig - you can see it at his shop now).

Frank is passionate about what he does, and it shows in his work. He is a business man, but it is not all about the money when it comes to doing things right on any car he works on. I just recently used his dyno services to "properly" break in my engine on the dyno after I took delivery of my F80. Excellent customer service.
