Battery Deep Discharge - 213C01

Hello All,

I left my key fob in the cup holder for about 3 weeks not knowing this would drain the battery. I was able to jump the car without any issue, and I have been driving it for about 6 months now with no other trouble. I can let the car sit for 10-14 days, jump in it, crank it over, and it starts right up. The battery stays full, and never measures below 13.2VDC when sitting in the garage. However, ever since the battery "died" my car has a yellow triangle, and when I read the code it says: 213C01 Power Management, Battery Status Detection Deep Discharge. I cannot get this warning to clear. Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried to clear it through BM3, but to no avail. Is my only choice ISTA?

Thanks,
ckendri

No joy on this code, eh? I'll reach out to a shop and see what they say. Hopefully I'll have something to report back.

Have you tried hooking the battery up to a lithium battery tender? Something that does 10-15a for a day or so? My guess is that would fix it.

I haven't put it on a tender because it is has never showed signs of being dead after a single jump start. I'm willing to try about anything though. I'll get a CTEK on order. I need one anyway for when I flash. Thanks.

If you have BimmerLink and an OBD2 reader you can check the current battery state.

Well I took it to an independent shop, and they said they could not fix it without replacing the battery. The battery tests fine in everyway, but they said there are "internal electronics" that cannot be reset. I guess there is some board inside that a bit gets set on once the battery reaches a state of deep discharge. That really stinks because the battery works fine. I guess I'll just live with the annoying light because I'm too cheap to shell out $2500 for a battery to turn a light off. Anyone in the market for a M4? I'll make a deal... at least $2500 off.

That's a good idea apparently.
