Why doesn't this M4 sell?

I have been watching this M4 bounce between dealers, and surprised that no one has picked it up. It is getting close to a price I think is market. What am I missing?

I thought you would like this Used 2020 BMW M4 Convertible w/ Competition Package for $75849 on Autotrader http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/240EEBF4

Thanks

because its an M convertible. they don't sell well. especially on the used market. its gonna take a very niche buyer who wants that exact car and is willing to eat the depreciation compared to a similar priced CS.

i'd recommend someone get a 2016 vert and save 30k if they just want an f8x vert.

Verts are the least desired in the M line up. Most people want the Carbon Fiber roof.

Not to mention the vert weighs a lot more

There's a minority of guys that actually prefer a vert, so the extra depreciation works out in their favor- like everyone else says, stick with a low mileage 2015-2016, it's all the same car

I would like to experience a BMW convertible sometime in life, but I imagine the novelty would wear off and the compromises would start to overwhelm the ownership experience. Am I right or wrong?

I owned a vert before. I drove with the top up most of the time. I'm not a vert kind of guy.

However, a vert + downpipes + valved exhaust makes for some SWEET noises.

This, I much prefer the top down with the valves open and the single AA midpipe. Its perfect for those curvy back roads

The truest way to experience a BMW convertible is to buy a Z4 Roadster, although the best Z4 Roadster ever made is the E85 Z4 M Roadster.

The current G29 Z4 M40i is about as close as you can get, it's actually faster because it has a turbo, whereas the E85 has the S54 engine, probably the best naturally aspirated 3.2-liter engine that BMW ever made, but the G29 lacks the soul of the E85. The Z4 M Roadster was only available as a 6MT and the G29 is only available with the ZF 8 speed automatic.

I owned a 2000 S2000 for 13 years, replaced it with the Z4 M Roadster in 2012, so I've been driving a roadster for 22 years, and a roadster was my daily until I bought my M4 in 2016. I rarely drive a roadster with the top up. It never gets old!

Agreed, I owned two Z4M Roadies and they were incredible. If BMW just remade that car again with a better engine I'd buy immediately.

In regards to the car in the thread, it's very expensive and is bumping up against a brand new G83 for just a bit more money. I think we're at the absolute top of used car prices right now, and we could potentially see a big depreciation for these cars in another year or so. I wouldn't recommend anyone buy used right now, hold out for new if you can find one.

I think it depends on your priorities. If tracking, then I'd wager you'd be right. But for spirited, responsible driving on twisty country byroads, there's nothing better than top down, wind in my hairs (yes, hairs..I only have a few left &#128512, rowing through gears and soaking in the scenery (and occasionally looking out (up) for spotter planes lol). I prefer 4 seaters vs roadsters as they add just a tad more practicality for carrying luggage.

I ve seen this one for months also. I bought an f83 bsm with silver stone full leather and overpaid, but didn't care so much as it was exactly what I wanted.

I think the red color is a like it or hate it kind of thing. Black interior is similar I think. It's like in unoffensive but kind of boring. But doesn't mean it isnt nice.

So if you like it go for it. It's more or less brand new. Also will have factory warranty for years and I bet they'd move even lower on price.

I absolutely loved my E46 M3 convertible. Laguna seca blue with a manual transmission. Drove with the roof down in the warm and the cold, only put it up for the rain. A few years prior I had an E85 3.0 manual roadster, loved that too.

Went for an F82 this time around as I love the sleek lines, and chose a sunroof as it was a good middle ground.

It's a good soccer mom car for someone who wants a four seat convertible, that a husband like me may drive four or five times a year.

It's good for a hairdresser, but if I were a hairdresser, I'd just get the 328i vert.

And from teh 12 year olds on the board:

"It's a good soccer mom car for someone who wants a four seat convertible, that a husband like me may drive four or five times a year."

"It's good for a hairdresser, but if I were a hairdresser, I'd just get the 328i vert."

If you live in a cold weather area or track, a convertible makes no sense, but if you live in a sunny place and do not track the vert is a far better experience. I have owned many M convertibles, Z3 and Z4 manuals, E46, E93 and F83. Top is always down except in the rain. I am not a soccer mom or hairdresser. You get fresh air, sunshine, better engine sound, the ability to carry very tall objects and my dogs love it too.

I guess that's why every supercar maker makes a convertible, as does Porsche. You know for soccer moms and hairdressers.

If the G29 Z4 M40i came in a manual I would be very interested since I never use my M4 back seat (except to carry large tall objects).

I now see that DocL says he is in sunny South Florida and doesn't like convertibles. I now know why he doesn't like convertibles. See Clarkson interview him at the 4:20 mark on this clip.
Explains everything. DocL thanks for not driving a vert.

I'm new here. just joined cuz I started shopping for an m4 convertible.

fascinating comments here. let me share my perspective.

when I was in high school and college, I loved the m3. E36, E46. lovely cars. dream cars.

but as a grown up, I've been more of a Porsche guy. had a few, currently keep a 997 gt3. something about m3 lost its appeal on me over the years.

in any case, aside from the family suv, I need a car to take my little kid around sometimes. and I'm in California and wanted to always have a convertible in my stable. and i do like sporty cars.

so you put those constraints together, and the only options I could think of are: m4 vert, mb AMG c63 vert. new mb SL and m8 vert seem to have unusable back seats even for child seats and both feel too cushy. MAYBE 992 cab could fit a child seat in back.

so there you have it. as a second lifestyle car to my daily gt3.

As a personal ref, carbon fiber roof was a requirement for me when I bought my 2016 M4. Not even a sunroof would have made it.

I've owned 2 F83's for a combined 3 years of ownership experience. I live in LA where the sun is always shinning for the exception of the 2 rainy days we get. You absolutely cannot beat the experience of taking a twisty road up a mountain down to PCH on a perfect sunny day, bumping Eagles - Hotel California and the cool wind in your hair. The car has plenty of power and handling for a fun enjoyable spirited drive without pushing it past legal limits.

However, I now have 2 track sessions under my belt and I would trade that experience for a 400+ lbs lighter and more rigid version of my vert' any day.

So it really depends on what your goals are. If you're not planning on tracking, nothing compares to the vert' experience, as it has the looks, the performance, and the handling to tackle anything you throw at it on streets.
