New to forum and M4 life! Quick question

Hi guys, I just got a used 2015 BMW M4, Mineral Grey, CCB's.

I traded in a 997.1 911 C2 and I honestly couldn't be happier with the decision. Car doesn't drive as nicely planted as my 911 but I am sure that it's because of the tires it came with (my 911 had PS4S, this has Sumitomo -?) but they're brand new so i'll use them until its time.

I had a question - car is super super clean, but the Carbon Fiber Brace in the engine has some really sticky residue like tape or something that was taken off, and i was wondering if anyone knew what the hell this was??

Thank you in advance and happy motoring!

No idea most of our m4s don't have any thing on the braces. they don't come from factory with anything on them. Try some Goo gone.

From inside the engine bay ON the brace? Super weird. I’m trying to upload pic now.

Looks like someone tried to do a clear bra or some kind of vinyl protection and messed it up? I haven't heard of the clear coat going bad on the brace before now, but there are a few folks that have reported the roof peeling.

Agree with Eurosonly Nothing a little goo gone could clean up if it is not the finish that is failing.

3M makes an adhesive remover that I've had better luck with removing strong left over adhesives. Comes in an aerosol can.

I wonder if someone had some cheap vinyl on that brace at some point.

Ugh. I mean Sumitono tires aren’t too bad, but I just don’t see how people buy budget tires for such a nice car. May go in line with what the other poster above said, maybe there were Instagram stickers on there so likely a guy who stretched his budget on an expensive car like this.

When I look for a used car, I always look at the tires to see how the previous owner treated the car. Cheap or mismatched tires likely means they didn’t care as much. Good thing your tires aren’t super cheap as Sumitomos aren’t bad but just I hope you got a service history of the car

*edit: sorry I don’t want to rain on your parade, you got a lovely car, just really hope you got things checked out prior to buying. And yes, MP4S tires will definitely help. To note, I had a WRX awhile back which I bought Sumitomo tires on. After those wore out I put Michelins on there and my track time improved by 6 seconds. Haha.

Someone definitely had stickers all over that beautiful carbon brace. Shame!

Thank you all for your replies!

So apparently the car was traded in with Michelin PSS but the DEALER installed these ... lol oh well

They’re going to be gone relatively soon and I’ll get some real tires on there.

I’ll try your suggestions of WD40 and 3M gunk remover.

Yes! Carfax is honestly one of the best ones I’ve seen, also spoke to the servicing dealer and it all checks out.

Thank you all

Coolant that sprayed on it?
Or maybe some kind of clear bra?

Be careful with the 3M adhesive remover, it can do nasty things to some surfaces. test an inconspicuous spot first.
