Why would it be smaller? Dimensionally they are pretty much the same. Most things are the same really, this generation they finally didn't ding someone who wants 4 doors.

M4 has more space in the front row. Perhaps not significant though I noticed.

I always have and always will be a coupe guy which is why I went with my m4, but every time I see a m3 in the showroom I kind of wish I had went that route. I think stock vs stock the m3 looks a bit better, IMO.

M3 has more headroom in the rear as well. If you're worried about interior space you can just go to a dealer and sit in any 3 & 4 series to compare.

M4 is for me, the berlina is just perfect, in the M3 the rear fender is very cool but the feeling of having a short door is not for me

Funny, I've had a lot of coupes (including M3) and the long doors really bother me.

I'm not too keen on long doors, it makes it hard to get in and out of tight spots. That being said, the length of the doors would probably NOT be a factor if I'm deciding between a 4 or 2 door.

Agree with the concern about the long doors. But, the convertible was paramount. Had to be an M4.

Having lived with my first ever 4-door (f80 M3 MY16) for 5 months now I'm so glad I got the M3 over the M4 in every way. My whole life all I had were coupes (e36 M, e46 M3 ZCP, 335i, than e92 M3) so I was a little nervous buying the f80 M3. But I love having the 4-doors, secondly I think the f80 looks nicer than the M4 IMO. Just a better looking complete car from all angles. And those rear wheel arches are so nice. I also think the rear taillights of the f80 look cleaner then the M4. Performance wise they are exactly the same so why not get the practicality with the great looks... M3 for me all day...

You can't go wrong either way here....I love the M4 rear actually with integrated trunk spoiler with lines matching carbon roof. The only design element I like better on m3 is rear fender flares, but the M4 is just overall a better looking car with lower roofline and sportier rear. If you have a family or really enjoy driving several other people around often then M3 makes more sense. As much as others say m4 is not much different looking than 4 series...well there are not that many 4 series on the road compared to 3 series which are everywhere. As far as the longer coupe doors go....they are annoying in tight spaces, but they allow better visibility if you aren't short since you sit further back. This is a huge plus i noticed not having that pillar right next to you.

I agree with the logic of twice as many 3 series than 4 series. But when it comes to the M cars they produce way more M4's than M3's. The dealer told me BMW makes 4 M4's to every 1 M3. So there is a lot less M3's on the road than M4's

m3 is indeed a more rare car...ive prob seen 2 M3 around my local area and 5 M4 (6 including mine) in 5 months of ownership. I love just going for "rides" to nowhere just to enjoy the drive in this beast.

I prefer M3 over M4 mainly due to my job, which required me going out with my manager and clients. Beside, I had always wanted an 4dr e36 M3 when I was in collage.
