Continental ExtremeContact Sport. Tire Report. Gold Star. Pictures Added.

The new Continental ExtremeContact Sports are surprisingly great tires. I've never been a huge fan of Conti car tires--now, That's changed.

By way of background, I'm on my fourth M3/4 generation car. Plus, a few others in between. I remember the first Michelin Sport; then, Sport 2s; then, the jump in improvement to the Super Sports (I think I've the chronology correct). I thought I'd always be a Michelin guy.

So, I own a 2015 M4, 19" stock wheels, MP HAS "coilovers", MPE. Otherwise, stock. The car came with super Sports 255/275. In order to keep the front to rear tire stagger similar to stock of about one (1") inch---I went with the Conti EC Sports in 265/35/19 and 285/35/19. (Keeping the 1 inch stagger front to rear is really challenging with the 4S.) Yes,, the tires are a little wider than the stock 255/275---yet, again, similar OEM stagger front to rear; in part, with hopes of eliminating any electronic interference. Plus, the additional width especially in the rear eliminated a lot of the DSC interference with acceleration.

I've have about 500 miles on the Contis ECS. First, most noticeable, the rear almost never breaks free even during spirited on-ramp driving. The turn initiation is better than the Super Sports; slalom like test is similar. All turns/corners at almost every speed is at least as good as the Super Sports---frankly, I think it's improved. The hard braking is equal to the SS, maybe better. In sum, These are grippy tires, cornering is great. Very consistent.

I did spend a couple Track days on the Conti ECS tires. I found them very consistent. They didn't loss the positive qualities as the various sessions progressed unlike SS after they get a few miles. The wear seemed reasonably good.

I've read some recent reviews of the 4S indicating issues with front tires feeling soft, corner washing. I've not noticed this with the Conti ECS.

I've no experience in wet weather.

Bottom line: guys, Continental has really upped their game. I'm a believer. I didn't think I'd ever say that. I wouldn't hesitate repurchasing. The Michelin stranglehold may have been broken.

More than a few the last I checked. I think they were close to $80+ cheaper a piece than the equivalent sized 4S's on Tirerack

Have these tires on my daily after previously having the EC DWs. Car has more grip than before and supposedly these will last longer, we'll see.

Thanks for the review, heard and seen good things on the ExtremeContact as well.
Not to mention their UHP DWS06 cannot be beaten (Best bang)

Been using DWS since 2012 & DWS06 for a year.
Car came with MPSS but after 7k miles it was not drivable in the rain above 55mph (Hydroplaning was bad)
Swap to DWS06 15k+ miles and still better.

Seriously considering these for my Conti 5p OEM replacements. You you have any photos of the new installed tires? Curious if the sidewall is as prominent as the MP 4S.

I finally got to try out these tires at Thermal. They are indeed impressive. I'm gonna get a set on my wheels.

How is the sidewall on these? Pretty stiff at higher speed corners? Got any recent updates with more mileage under your belt? Looks like they have wheel/curb protector built into the sidewall, is that right?

Thinking about putting a set of these on my Black Series.

For this category (high performance dry/wet) tire--I think you'll be hard pressed to find better performer as stated above. With more miles, they are still impressive. So, I've nothing but positive feedback. I did a couple Track days with a couple higher speed corners--very predictable and consistent. Michelin tend to cycle out IMO after a few laps.

The tires pic above are slightly larger than OEM width which results in the appearance of the tire extending a bit more than the wheel which is kinda nice. I just bought some new wheels which will be 1/2 inch wider front and rear. I'll post some updated pics shortly.

Not sure the PS4S and ECS has been around long enough for many reviews regarding treadwear.

If you go by the numbers on tirerack, it'll be a ballpark figure because all the different brands submit their treadwear ratings on their own; it's like an honor system. So it might be better to compare tires within the same brand when it comes to tirerack's treadwear numbers. For comparison, the Conti 5P is rated at 280 wear and the ExtremeContact Sport is rated at 340 wear.

Ok makes sense.

I love the PS4S but if the savings are good and all around performance is close, I definitely would like to try these out.

The best thing is the PS4S is really comfy I assume due to a taller sidewall and much more quiet than my oem 5Ps.

Hopefully soon, more guys here will have experience with both the extreme and PS4S and chime in.

I did get to try both the Continental ECS and the Michelin PS4S on race tracks. Unfortunately, the PS4S involved a lot of involuntary drifting due to rain. I wish I could have driven it in the dry.

Are these available in the correct load index for the front and rear unlike the PS4S?

All the load rating information should be available on tirerack.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...eContact+Sport

Just click on the size you want. Then click on the SPECS tab.

Curious on your rear wheel specs. I'm considering the ECS too, but they dont offer 295/30R19, which leaves it between 285/35R19 or the 305/30R19 that you are going with.

TIA
