I think that's accurate for the major revs, but there seem to be minor revs more often. At least that's been my interpretation of the I-level guides. Maybe I'm reading it incorrectly.

And there are also at least two versions that were released in November. F020-17-11-521 and F020-17-11-540.

Anyone knows what updates/improvements to expect from the latest software update for a 2016 non ZCP M3 with DCT, HUD, and adaptive suspension? The car is stock except for a couple of cosmetic details... it never had any software updates neither.....

Thanks in advance

Coming from a 2015, I just had mine updated and it was like night and day. Not a placebo at all. The car rides so much nicer (previously it felt like I had blown shocks) , the traction control is now progressive and doesn't just kick in and catch you off guard, the car is quieter now though which is fine with me. Both the acceleration, shifting is all smoother and more refined. It actually feels like a new car. The original software was garbage and made me question owning the car. Like others have said, its now representative of how the M division makes cars.

Current Version: F020-18-03-532

I wouldn’t call it garbage but mostly agree on the whole. Having just gotten the most current iteration of the F80 platform, I have to say it seems to have become a completely fleshed out design. From ‘15 to ‘18, they’ve come a long way, to delivery a completely different experience, and in my opinion for an all around better driving experience.

Yes, just purchased weeks ago. As compared to my early ‘15.

My dealer just updated my May 2015 firmware to the lastest the past weekend. It makes a HUGE difference and the power delivery in sport plus is so much smoother now. The car used to jerk like I don't know how to drive manual if I gave too little gas in D3. That jerkiness is completely gone now. The exhaust also sounds deeper and a bit better.

The dealer did not charge me due to another software issue. Overall, it may be worth it, even if I need to pay for it.

Without reading through all 43 pages here, do dealers do this at customer request or do you have to have some related issue? I assume it's not free (nothing is with BMW), what's this typically run?

Is free, they will do it on request if you complain that your car is not driving right.

Thanks, have it in for an alignment next week so will see if they can take care of it then. Pulled mine from my profile and it looks to be pretty old.

Good. Paired up with a paid service never hurts to get the software update as an add on update. Free!

My dealer said there are no updates (as part of free maintenance etc) but that he can do on request. They charge 250$.
I have 30k service appointment next week and plan on getting it done...

Do you feel the difference mainly for DCT transmission? I've got a 2015 6spd and wondering if it's worth taking my car to the dealership and having them update it.

Just took in my 2018 M4 for the break in service and they told me they updated the software to the latest version. How do i check and what's the latest version?

Ask any BMW dealer to print out the data held on your key.

I had a whole new transmission in my 2016 LCI and they did a full iStep update for every component of the car. The DCT I can't comment on as it was a new box...but the damping and particularly the traction control and the way the car feels when you drive "on it" has changed. It used to be very on-off and once traction was broken the TC was brutal. It also would want to kick out in a straight line under WOT.

Now, with the updates it spins a little when using WOT but tracks straight, feels predictable and moved around as you would expect when you're "on it". I don't feel like I'm fighting the car or waiting for it to step out anymore.

This coming from a 1M and an E90 M3 both of which had more steering feel and didn't feel as edgey as the F80. Now I trust the car I'm enjoying much more.

Dealers here usually charge $200 AUD to do the full update as it takes a few hours. Just make sure you have warranty of some sort as they warned me if a module fails during an update they won't be replacing it.

Has anyone experienced a module failure during software update? I ask because my dealer has refused to update the original software in my 2015 F80 M3 DCT so I am considering having it done at an independent BMW shop.
