Vibrating noise from the rear while accelerating hard

Hey guys. I just got a 2018 M4. I have noticed a buzzing noise/squeak coming from the rear when I do hard acceleration in gear 4th/5th with above 3000 RPMs (windows up). It seems like some trim component vibrates or rubs/flaps against some thing. It stays for just 1-2 seconds and then disappear if I continue to accelerate the speed. It typically starts at around 75-80 mph and disappears the moment speed goes above 90-100mph (after my continued acceleration). It is not present when I am cruising at 60-70 mph with under 3K RPM. It starts only when I push the gas pedal hard (more than half) at a speed of 60 mph in 4th-5th gear. So I think it has something to do with the air and acceleration of the car.

I don't appreciate it if loud music is on. But it is definitely annoying with music turned off.

I am not sure if buzzing squeaks like this are normal at high speeds with hard acceleration or is there something wrong!!

Reading the posts on the forum, there are so many people complaining about rattles/squeaks. What do you guys think is the issue here?

I will eventually get it checked by the dealership in my next service visit. Car is still under warranty.

Actually I started noticing this recently. Probably some kind of resonance in the exhaust system and the fact the car is so rigid.

Prob something small as long as you're under warranty and it's not annoying if the dealer makes up some excuse saying it's normal just drive it lol who cares if something breaks it's on their dime.

If your exhaust isn't stock or you listen to music always like myself I don't think you'll ever hear it. If it gets louder than maybe it'll be a big deal. Once you approach end of warranty though I'd definitely bother the shit out of your dealer before it ends.

Thanks for the input. Do you guys think it has something to do with the door seals or the CF roof. I went into the back seats and pushed the area of roof around the 3rd brake light with my thumbs and it squeaks when i push with thumbs.

But as the car is under warranty... I will just get it checked if it keeps on annoying me !!

Are you doing anything for it? I never thought about exhaust resonance. Which exhaust do you have? I am completely stock with ZCP exhaust.

It’s not active sound related. It’s only under hard acceleration above 70-80mph when am pushing hard between 3-5k rpm. It’s more of a resonance/vibration coming from the rear and disappears on its own in like 1-2 secs.

I love the car and the drive. And actually not even bothered about the comfort given the fact that am coming from a super comfy 530i. The car has different personalities depending on how you wanna drive it. I like the ride and the road noise is expected in an M car. It’s just this resonating/vibrating noise on hard acceleration that’s annoying me and I want to make sure that nothing is wrong.

I'm stock ZCP. I don't think it's a big enough issue to do anything about it. The door seal creaking happens when you go over uneven surfaces.

You can hear the rattle at 0:11-0:13 secs. Just lasts for 2 secs and disappear as I rev up further. I do not notice it if my windows are down or if am playing loud music.

I am not in a hurry to get it checked. Will bring it up at the next service appointment. Just wanted to post the video to see if you guys have any suggestions for a possible fix.

Thanks.

The third break light is known to rattle in these cars iirc

Haven't done anything myself, but have had rear passengers tell me it is causing a bit of a rattle.

Maybe this thread can help you - https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1241733

I can't tell from video where sound is coming from (inside cabin? Below car?) but it may be exhaust buzzing up against heat shield or a hanger off or bent?

It feels like the rear end of the car vibrates under hard acceleration creating this rattly sound. Vibration although just stays for 2 seconds but is annoying everytime I do the hard acceleration. I don’t feel it with windows down or music on.

It’s so disappointing that we have to deal with such issues in a car like M4. I drove the car after removing the third brake light cover and the vibration still persists. Now I am suspecting it might be something wrong with the exhaust or driveshaft (loose exhaust, exhaust hitting the heat shield etc). I am going to get it checked by my dealership on Friday. I will be able to demonstrate this to them easily. I hope they find the issue and fix it. Will keep you guys posted.

Hopefully thats all it is and its a simple adjustment/fix. I'm 2yrs into ownership and zero issues (other than ones brought on myself like rattling AA midpipe I haven't bothered to sort out).

Are your tires still good? My PSS are on their last legs and it gets really loud with slight vibration under hard acceleration. Check the tread in the inside edge, that's where it wears out fastest.
Had the same situation on previous Bmw and new PS4s cured everything.

Tired are brand new. Although its PS4S at front ant Pilot Super Sport on rear. PS4S were on back order and had a nail in one the rear PS4Ss so BMW replaced with new PSS on rear. All 4 tires tread depth is equal.
