So much more fun than the M5

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Put 1000 miles on the M4 now on EU highways and mountain roads and I can say it is SO much more fun than the M5.

(Of course M5 is amazing and I love its premium quality... That's why I also have a 5series.)

Despite M4's issues, last time I had so much fun, probably when I was 6 and got a new pirate ship Lego.

And here's some tight parking in Munich downtown for "pleasure", had to fold the mirrors to fit.

I'm 2 1/2 years into my M5 and am still enjoying it mainly because if it being a 6spd. I'm looking forward to an M4 6MT after the lease is up but am worried a bit that I'd be giving up a lot of space for only a little more fun.

M3/4 feels like it has as big a footprint as my E60 M5 did. Maybe get an M3 if you want the four doors? Trunk seems generous too.

Wow that parking spot. How do you even get out of there if there is car parked both left and right of you?

Yep. Definitely checking out the 4 door as well. With the kids getting taller, to downsize a family car for my enjoyment alone may be difficult to justify

I don't know what's more impressive, the car or the balls you have to even attempt parking in that "spot".

Yeah I felt the same way when i went from my e60 M5 to my e90 M3. M3 make M5 feels like a fat bloated pig.

The new M3/4 has surprisingly loads of space inside and a decent sized trunk. A lot of my friends made that comment. Even when driving it feels like a much bigger car compared to E90/92.

I have a thread on how M3 and M5 all get wider and wider over the years.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=940459

The new M3 is much larger than my E46 M3. My kids think the new M3's interior is even larger than our 2004 Volvo XC70, from their backseat perspective.

I lived and traveled across Europe. This is normal, actually generous space. You get used to it. There are much worse.

This is true, I personally wish BMW would stop now with the increased size for each generation. A 3 series will soon be the size of a 7 series. It's got too stop surely.

Isn't the F30/80 etc as big as the E39?

Agree. The E39 size is however I good sport sedan size in the US. Everything is big here, cars, parkings, roads, road trips etc. In Europe the F80 feel a tiny bit too big for a sports sedan / GT car and the infrastructure in general. The M2 should be just right, I don't think it will be available as 4 door though?

Almost identical.

One thing I'll say though: I had an e39 with a dinan stage 2 suspension on it and even a base model f30 drives alot smaller/tighter/more agile.

Though the sizes are nearly identical to the e39, the f30 platform has made amazing advances in chassis design and drives like a smaller vehicle than the e39.

I personally chose not to pursue an e90 m3 because of it's space, engine, interior design, and gearbox and I'm happy the f80 is that few inches bigger. Now it's perfect for me
