Brake Shudder
My M4 has only 5000 miles yet has developed a heavy shudder while braking over, say 50 MPH. I guess its pads or disks however has anyone has this before? Not had any track days and drive pretty sensibly, plenty of meat on the pads.
I also assume BMW will not replace such items under warranty being wearable items? Thanks. |

I dont know about getting it done under warranty, but I'm pretty sure "wearable" doesn't mean every 5k miles, so I'd still ask them to do it out of principle.
Do you have any pad imprints on any of the discs? left the car outside for a long period of time? I also saw this happen on a buddy's M4, and his dealer told him it was because the inside of the wheel where it connects to the hub had been painted over (probably when someone refurbished the wheels) and it was messing up the heat dissipation from the brakes. Hope you get it fixed!

This thread might be of help. Some of us are experiencing the same thing (I'm on my 4th set of front rotors in around 8k miles). BMW won't replace them under warranty but if you have a service plan then it covers them. BMWNA had to get involved for the 3rd repair though.
https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1659376 After warping the 3rd set, they finally replaced the front wheel hubs like I had asked them to and so far, so good. But I'll know in a couple more months whether they were the initial problem or not. Looking like that's the culprit though based on other people having the same issue too.

Had the same with mine with 5k on the clock and fought for ages with BMW but no joy, ended up changing for a BBK instead.
Good luck with BMW warranty

You can also try an aggressive race pad and do a bed in process as found here

I'm glad we're not alone though (sucks you're having the same issue as us, but misery loves company, right? )
