I tuck it behind that piece behind it. I just took it out to take the picture. I've had it for 4 years now and not a problem.

Has anyone wired up a "extension" that is accessible from the grill so that the hood does not need to be opened up to connect to the battery posts?
You do not need to run a port to the grill.
Get a CTEK lithium charger and an M8 eyelet hard wire kit.
Plug it into the charger, tuck the wire under the front left fender near the headlight, and close the hood...

So you are running the same exact thing that we are talking about to the fender rather than the grill-

Can you post pics of your set up?

Also-does BMW post the specs for the trickle charger?
I am seeing this charger being recommended/required? for this battery:

thanks-
but since that location requires opening the hood.... what
is the advantage?
behind the grill means no opening of the hood....

but what charger are you using?

Ctek lithium ion. It's basically the same as the branded Ctek BMW charger. I think I got it for like 120 bucks on Amazon.

Is a lithium ion charger any different than a normal one?

If so how is any different... or is it marketing?

Let’s be very clear. The USA MSRP of $1861.57 is right at $2,400 CAD at today’s best conversion rate.

And just as you will pay tax at your BMW Dealer in the USA, do not forget the almost 20% Canadian excise tax for health services.

So the $2800 CAD is right in line. Try and get a discount on parts in the actual Service Department of your local BMW Dealer (Not Parts Department).

And the $1100 - $1400 quoted for USA Batteries? Just try and Oder one on GetBMWParts.

Add it to your cart. I’ll wait.

Now look at it in your cart. Notice it says LOCAL PICKUP ONLY.

As batteries are hazardous material, GetBMWParts.com and other BMW Discounters have not gone through the expense and certification to ship hazardous material. Nor do they want to do all the extra paperwork and liability.

And if they were to ship hazardous material and there was an issue, they could be sued by the carrier and US Govt, not to mention the other legal responsibility.

And, they would most likely be banned by the shipping Company from ever shipping through them again.

Making $100 or so off you isn’t worth it.

So yes, you can buy a battery from GetBMWParts for $1500, but you will need to drive to Silver Springs, MD to personally pick it up. 😭

So, the $2800 CAD from a Dealer is in line and reasonable.

For the person thinking the price will be down to $1000 when they need it, dream on. Prices are rising, not falling.

If I understood correctly, the issue you're having now is with a component that was repaired/changed 2 years ago?

You need to check you local warranty guidelines, but in most cases the warranty starts from scratch for new/repaired components. Perhaps this could help.

Good luck!

This thread is screwed anyways so I'll order it and you wait lol.
Yes, they don't ship batteries but they also don't ship anything else outside of US.

''Do you ship Internationally/outside the US?
No, sorry - we do not offer international shipping per BMW. All parts are intended for use within the US, and all orders must provide a US shipping address or be picked up from our location. ''

Scroll down if you wanna check for yourself. There's lots of text in the explanation.

https://www.getbmwparts.com/policies/shipping

No idea what is health excise tax. Ontario has 13% sales tax, Alberta for example has only 5%.
Price in the estimate should be without tax so 2800-2400=400 could be installation fee
2800x13%=164 so 2800+164=CAD 3164 for installed battery

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: BMW Canada ended up good willing the entire repair. I was still charged 1 hour for the battery diagnostic (to confirm to me the charge was low lol) and 1 hour for the software update coding for the valvetronic replacement because "BMW doesn't cover that" (which basically means the dealer isn't getting paid for that by BMWs Goodwill so they found an opportunity to charge me for it even though its part of the entire fix). Not going to argue that further. Everything seems to be good now. Will monitor it the next few days and make sure the ticking noise/CEL is finally gone for good.

If i never had the history for this issue, I doubt anyone would have helped.

Also, with regards to the battery they said its charging up to 90% and still recommended a replacement. They said they can't give warranty on the work unless i change the battery. I will likely swap it out for an Anti-Gravity battery soon.

Overall this experience was not good but ended relatively well by the higher ups.

The low level service advisor and assistant service manager handled it very poorly and were only concerned about making money and/or giving me a hard time. We have to understand that dealers only get paid very minimally under warranty/goodwill repair. Some decide to help regardless of this, others will try to milk as much as they can from you.

If I was not covered under good will, the repair would have been done at an Indy shop. I guess it was either help me try to get goodwill or lose the business. The dealership level decides how much they want to help and can greatly influence whether BMW Canada/NA covers things under good will or not. Again, my case there were updated fix procedures issued in a PUMA bulletin and I had a history of this issue which helped a lot. 2.5 years out of warranty is rare to get assistance.
