So I just checked my reservoir and it's interesting my yellow plastic indicator thing looks different from all the pics people have posted. Could this also reflect an upgraded intercooler? I just took delivery of my car this week.

That looks stock, it's just submerged in fluid. Post a pic of your engine bay

Yes it's very similar but it is slightly different with the positioning of the hole and also the "MAX" writing... car is getting xpel wrapped so I'll take a pic on Monday when I pick it up

The M2C appear to have a different float than other S55's. I doubt the cooler core is any different just the reservoir.

2015 with 40k miles.

Good grief, hope you're still under warranty.

This is a check at every gas fill up thing I'm afraid, only takes a moment.

I LITERALLY went through this last week. 2015 with 40k...I was 7 weeks out of warranty and asked if they would honor it bc it seems to be a prevalent issue and they took care of it. Worth asking if you're out if warranty I should say.

Yeah once mine started to go, it seemed pretty quick as well. My car drove like crap too but no visible codes—I thought that was odd.

Nice they covered it post warranty. They should have, but dealerships can be difficult sometimes.

Yep. Check your reservoir and make sure there’s fluid in there. If not, you probably have a leak.

Yes I have stuff in the reservoir it’s in the middle between the stick but it’s not the blue coolant in there it’s just clear and also I opened it up and took this apart because I was having bogging with some turbo lag. And thought it might be this. There’s a line straight down to the turbo with like a dried up liquid down into it and nothing into other.

Since your reservoir appears be at the correct level, I think what you are seeing in your charge pipe is some oily condensation that made it past the PCV system. In fact, it is not uncommon for one charge pipe to be dry while the other one has some oily residue in it. If you want to solve that problem, an oil catch can is your solution. From what I have seen, all of the charge cooler failures have dumped water via the cold pipe (or J-pipe) side since whether the engine is under vacuum or boost, the flow of water will still go towards the engine, not the turbos.

Correction. My car has 44k miles with in an In-Service date of Oct 2014. Factory warranty has expired.

Luckily for me, I purchased the car used with Maxcare warranty from Carmax. Took it to Sterling BMW - They diagnosed that my Intercooler was indeed leaking internally. They are replacing the motor, Intercooler, Oil cooer, etc.

The whole experience has been pretty easy dealing with the 3rd party insurance and BMW. My out of pocket expenses are just my $50 deductible.

Now its just waiting for them to get the parts installed. Hopefully I'll have it back in a week or so.

jymmeih14 why are they replacing the short block? Seems to be above and beyond any repairs listed in this thread.

I don't know. From what the SA stated to me, the tech didn't find any external leaks but saw white smoke after filling the intercooler coolant reservoir. Opened the intercooler and found it leaking internally. From what he saw during his tear down - his recommendations were to replace the intercooler, oil cooler and short block.

I'm just thankful I had the warranty and basically have a new motor.
