Is switch from US to UK English possible with iDrive 5 / HU_NBT2?

On my 2017 cars with iDrive 5 and HU_NBT2, the reported coding to switch from US English to UK English

HU_NBT LANGUAGE_ENGLISH_UK nicht_aktiv -> master
HU_NBT LANGUAGE_ENGLISH_US master -> nicht_aktiv

does not work properly.

When I do this, all text disappears from menus on the Control Display. As far as I can tell, the menus seem to work (but it's really hard to tell with no text!).

There is an iDrive configuration menu option for language input in UK English, but it even specifically says this does not change the output language.

There are also iDrive configuration menu options for French and Spanish languages which do work as expected and change the menu text to the specified language.

I tried adding Korean by changing from "nicht_aktiv" to "list" in LANGUAGE_KOREAN, but that did not make any change in the iDrive language selection options. I didn't think to try LANGUAGE_GERMAN when I was out in the barn freezing my face off trying this.

Changing the above values to "list" did make both English and UK English appear in the configuration menu, but UK English was not actually selectable. The same happened when I had LANGUAGE_ENGLISH_US as "master" and LANGUAGE_ENGLISH_UK as "list".

Any ideas on this?

I am not sure if this will work, but did you try the following?

I did make the HU_NBT2 changes, but I did not look in Kombi. I'll give that a shot.

Interested to see what you find. I ran into the same issue as you when I tried going to the UK settings last month.

In my KOMBI (00009C8) I have a plain old "SPRACHE" under "PIA_EINHEITEN". The default is "us". The list includes "uk" and a number of other languages. I'll see if it does anything. There are no other strings containing "SPRACHE".

You could try E-sys Coding-Verification with EU Type Code to highlight any other potential differences.

Different ECU. The coding that worked for your car makes all the text disappear from my menus.

Yes, works on HU_NBT2 with ID4 plus plus as long as you code KOMBI and H-H2.

I have successfully coded on G12 and G30. I have not attempted again on other ID5/ID6 systems. Why are you sure it will not work?

Yes, there are definitely KOMBI settings. Good thing you have HU_NBT2, otherwise you might have two other (CMB) modules that you would also have to check for language settings.

Any luck? I successfully coded on an F013 and another G012. But, both use different KOMBI that your F083.

is the order of module coding important?
I read that necessary is first coding KOMBI and after HU_NBT2.
In CIC, NBT I always coded fisrt HU_NBT unit and after Kombi.

It doesn't really matter what you code first.
Coding order is not important in this case.

I have done it both ways and had no issues.

Programming matters when there are dependencies, but coding order does not.

There are sometimes issues with other languages, but not when switching between US & UK English.

I have never done it via FA, but you could.
