Mixing Motul Xcess Gen1 and Gen2
Any issues with mixing these two oils? I didn't even know Gen2 was a thing until the oil for my next change just came in with a 5L jug of Gen2 and 2 1L bottles of Gen1.
I normally wouldn't want to mix oils, but they should be mostly the same, just a stronger additive package in the Gen2 for newer approvals. I'm getting the car prepped for a track day on Monday, so it's either mix these oils, or try to source something else locally, like Pennzoil Euro 5w40. Thoughts?

You are all good. The gen 2 says it is backward compatible in the press release. Both gen 1 and 2 are ll01 oils.

The press release says the Gen 2 is backwards compatible in terms of approvals, but not that the two oils can be mixed. I'm not sure if they are close enough that mixing is no issue, or if there is enough difference that it would be like mixing a Castrol LL01 with a Pennzoil LL01.

Why are you running LL-01 oil instead of the approved LL-01FE spec (bigger turbos)? I'm using the Motul Specific LL-01FE 5w30 in my '18 F80 (38K mi) for the last 5K miles with zero oil consumption. My baby is FBO and Stg1 tune and I drive her hard.

I'm in the in between of a new motor swap and they filled it with Motul 8100 X Clean but I have a half empty 8100 X cess Gen 2 that I want to top it off with-is that a bad idea? Not sure if they work together just because they're both the same weight (5w40) and brand.

Since you just dropped in that new used engine maybe dump the X-clean as a “wash out” step and go right to the X-cess Gen2.

Then just top off, and do the full full of X-cess after the hub.

For whatever reason the shop said they only have x clean. It’s not bad for the engine is it? I’m driving it like a old lady since no hub and recent trauma.
