MHD or BootMod3

Now before the town comes after me with pitchforks and torches for asking a simple question without doing my own research let me start off by stating I’m currently deployed on a aircraft carrier in the middle of some ocean somewhere excited about my return to home port to start beefing up my new to me M3. I have previous experience with MHD as I had a Motiv built motor as well as their 900 bottom mount turbo kit on my E92 335i making damn good power and MHD was basically just a platform for custom tunes supplied by Ken and Wedge, but as many of you are thinking this has no correlation with the f80 M3 game. Which is why I am coming to ask you all who have dove down this rabbit hole dozens of times. I have zero experience with BootMod because it was not offered on the E9X platform, so I would greatly appreciate if you guys could share your experiences with the two above listed tuning softwares.

I guess it's kind of pick your poison situation.

My experience is applicable to BM3. Along with the full map add on. Pleased with it. MHD has as strong following too.

I'm not sure if either platforms tunes are any more powerful than the other. Moreover, custom tunes are available on each platform. It's the tuner which makes the power, not the flash device.

There's some upcoming enhancements from BM3 which will go a along way.

If you're looking for solid reliable power, I don't think you can go wrong with either.

MHD is much cheaper for the same concept.

First off, thank you Sir for your service. Much respect.

Take the BM3 and pay the extra $100 for the OTS Tune Pack, for flexibility. You can start with a GTS or Stage 1 for your local fuel, and play with exhaust valves and burbles. Stage 1 93 has little risk for spinning a crank hub. Once you get your bolt ons you can do Stage 2 93 and start thinking about the hub. Do your crank hub first if you get the itch for Stage2 E85 or Paul/Cary levels (although P/C can custom tune with high HP and reduced TQ for stock hubs).

Damn surprised that your internet was good enough to make it this far.

I’m planning to go with MHD only because I can flash straight from my phone but BM3 is working on this also. Then the other reason is because MHD OBD plug works with the THOR GTS flash that I have, with BimmerCode and Enet cable. So now I don’t need 300 OBD plugs in my car.

Shipmate stay safe.

I have only experienced BM3 between the two. I like how you can datalog, have live data and read/clear codes all in one place. Also have access to a list of tuners that use BM3 if you want to go custom.

BM3 in my opinion
  • stronger OTS maps
  • maps created in-house
  • faster updates
  • stronger support

We offer the bootmod3 with 30 day money back guarantee

You can do this also with MHD without the need of an OBD agent. I know BM3 is working to be able to do this also though.

IMO they are about the same for both. One thing I have observed is that BM3 has better customer support.

Agree with everything other than stronger OTS maps. I have dissected both and 2+ on Pureboost (mhd) is running on average 2* more timing and a psi more or so past 4500rpm.

On mhd OTS my car went 7.4 on 93 octane only 60-130 (6.4 100-200) and went 11.1@130. I haven't seen a ots bm3 tune trap higher than 127 nor 60-130 in the low 7s. I've been looking too, as I'm open to switching.

so you are using OTS maps on MHD? Do you know who wrote the OTS maps. I know on the N54 side of MHD my tuner Ken at Wedge wrote the OTS maps and i was wondering if he tunes M3s but i cant get in contact with him with me being on a ship and all.

What proof do you have that the bm3 ots maps are stronger? I couldn't find anything when I was looking?

I want to see stage 2 ots bm3 and stage 2+ mhd comparison

Just get ahold of 6 logs three from each tuner and compare the numbers. It's not rocket science. The MHD maps were created by a euro company called pure boost. Bm3 stage 2 is stronger than MHD stage 2 by maybe a degree. However, MHD 2+ is stronger than BM3 2H or 2+ by about what I pointed out above. 2-3 degrees and a pound or so of boost. Which is not something you'd really feel in the car.

I was just posting the info requested. I don't have a tune. I have been researching lately. I'm only going with MHD is because I already have the OBD plug and I can use it with my THOR flash and BimmerCode.

There is one thing about BM3 that I see more than MHD. I follow both pages in FB and I do see more issues with BM3 than MHD.

After some research that should of took me maybe 5 minutes it looks like Ken over there at Wedge Performance does tune S55s so I’m just going to stick to my roots and go MHD as I have 4+ years’ experience on that program. Thanks for all the input but feel free to keep the debate going. I like to read all the following replies as it helps me get a greater understanding of BootMod3.

I will mention out of nowhere my MHD wireless adapter just stopped working for no reason I cant connect nor log my car which is a big deal to me. I sent them an email and who knows if theyll actually respond. In context, I have been using MHD wireless adapter successfully for two months. Tomorrow ill grab ahold of a wired obd2 adapter and see whats going on.
