I got my smog done last month and I can confirm with BM3 flashed back to stock and re-locked DME and GTS TCU flash I was able to pass with no issues- Maybe I got lucky but this was my experience. I did the stage 1 and GTS flash years ago and never touched it until I needed to smog. I only Flashed back to stock, re-locked DME and drove around until the sensors were ready. I did not touch anything related to the transmission before going in for the smog test.

Hope this helps.

California? So you just left your GTS transmission tune on and did not flash the TCU back to stock?

Sorry to so long to respond, I login much more infrequently.
Yes, I am located in California, San Francisco bay area. I did not flash my transmission tune back to stock- It was smog tested with the GTS TCU tune and luckily I passed.

Just did mine last week, you only have to switch the ECU back to stock and not the transmission. They were more focused on the car having the stock cat more than anything else.

WHAT IS LIKE OWNING A MODIFY CAR IN CALIFORNIA!

Any reason why I can’t click on re lock dme on bootmod3? It only lets me flash back to stock? I need to have it ready for smog soon.

When you click flash it will open up another window that gives you the option to flash or flash and relock.

Had to use google chrome

Let me add on that I flashed back to stock. Got my monitors ready and passed my smog all in about 10 days. I’m back on stage 1. Lol

This is a great read! Thank you OP. Curious, if anyone able to do this on their diesels? I have 2015 xdrive35d and have been trying to find an answer for a long time. I am just planing on stage 2 without removing any downpipes or hardware. Many thanks in advance.

For an ecu tune, I don’t see a diesel being treated any differently when checking for oem software. A modified ecu, is a modified ecu. Any reason why can’t reinstall the stock tune?

I'm in MA and failed with a full GTS/CS flash from kubax. He said it was due to the transmission tune. After he flashed that back to stock I passed. My question is how the EPS/EDC flash's are okay? Are they not stored in the DME directly?
