Help: Swing spring issue
Hello everyone, i have been running these swift springs on my base f80 for about 3 years now. In the past year or so i have noticed a clicking sound when turning steering wheel especially when the car is still cold and just driving out. I also notice that the second coil from bottom rubs on the aluminum strut perch and has already rubbed through the bottom rubber spring pad that was sticking out, i tore that flapping piece off from both sides. Also both sides have marks on the strut spring perch from spring rubbing and not just one side. Is this a normal occurrence with progressive springs since the bottom coils just sit one on-top of the other? I have noticed this while wheels were off when i was getting my tires replaced and car was jacked up. Today i went to take a picture of how its sitting for this write up and noticed that the left drivers spring looks to be sitting incorrectly. Why and how could this have happened? Can this explain the noise? But the right side(pic with orange fender visible) looks to be seated correctly but the bottom coins still drop below the spring perch I'm guessing during driving.
Also the insides on my tires get eaten up rather quickly, I've noticed that for all the last few tire changes that i have had. Is there a chance that the springs under compression are rubbing on my tires? Right side i believe is the one that eats it through faster. I have gotten many alignments throughout the years and its never been significantly out of wack, camber is -2.0 -2.1 and toe set to 0.08 on both sides. Rear camber is around -1.8 both sides and 0.15 toe. I even ran up to -2.5 rear camber and in all cases i got pretty even overall thread wear. |

That's definitely not right. The spring should not be twisting around on the lower seat. Usually that would mean that the upper strut mount is not spinning freely and independently of the spring. I would suggest replacing the upper strut mounts and the lower rubber spring seat and reinstalling. The spring itself should not cause this issue.
