I went to my local dealer in Ontario, Canada to get my cracked silver emblem replaced. They would not for the life of them swap to the black emblems. I even asked them if I bought the black, would they install them for free? Still they said no, "it's not covered under the warranty to install parts not replaced under the warranty. Has to be identical part numbers." Left the dealership with my silver emblems. I will buy the black ones from a different dealer and install them myself.

It's attached to my rear cigg jack. Tucked all the wires in around the seats. LEDs with double sided tape attached behind the airbag.

Pretty cool if you ask me. I've gotten a lot of interest from ppl on my IG asking me about these.

Mine is out of warranty and dealer said they were good willing repairs at like 80%. Repair cost $1800. My cost like 350-400. Forget that.

1800 for the seat emblems ?! You can buy them for 350ish new and pop them in yourself lmao. Dealer is doing you no favor, the labor is so easy any bmw Indy shop would pop it in for free if you got an oil change or something from them. Check kies Motorsport diy.

I just went through this today and even called BMW NA to open a case and escalate. Still got denied. Got the silver.

Here is the upside. Not long ago BMW changed there wiring of the emblem so that a connector is installed behind the emblem so it can be installed without having to remove the leather. I was worried this change was only on the black ones but I confirmed the silvers have the new cable. This means that if your silvers get replaced with silver the tech will update your wiring. Swapping to the blacks yourself will be a piece of cake!

I was only in for a safety inspection. Dealer always trying to find something wrong. Maybe they were quoting for removing the entire seat or something. Must be hard up for work with people driving less.

Good write up. The engineer must have gotten a bonus for coming up with that idea since BMW was probably forking out a lot of labor claims doing it the old way. I'd probably switch mine to black but $300 is a lot to spend for something practically not ever seen.
