Need a good Street/Track brake pad

hi all,

looking for a good street/track pad. Right now im using cool carbon, but they are back ordered. Maybe looking for Hawk pads, i used the HPS on my E92 and they were good. Im using the OEM metal rotors, NOT the CF. So anything good for my F82 2018 M4?

Doing a few track days a year, maybe AUTOX here and there. So mostly a good street pad that can handle a track day.

whats everyone using now?

I have been happy with Ferodo for a few years now. Served me well on COTA and will sometimes leave them on the car between track days and have performed well on street too.

Ferodo DS2500 will last a bit longer on track than OE stuff. Also sometimes daily their DS1.11 track pad, which works pretty damn great on track with a lot more initial bite and noise during normal driving. Had both on stock and Girodisc rotors.

I'd advise against using ds1.11 on the street. Mine sound like a garbage truck on my AP kit on the E92. DS2500 is the better option but still isn't a true track pad, you'll eat through it quickly on the track but better lasting that OEM pads.

There is no good street/track pad. You will have to settle somewhere. Get a dedicated track and street pad.

Get the ferodo DS2500 from FCPeuro and get free lifetime replacements if you wear through the pads quickly. I find it to be a decent pad for the track if you aren't pushing it hard back to back for too long. Without additional brake cooling, I tend to go 3 hard laps followed by an easier lap to cool down the brakes a bit. I've been happy with it overall on the F80 and prior cars.

My OEM pads just ran out.

I drive harder than most, only on the street. Zero track use.

Is there a good alternative that lasts longer, less noise; same or better performance?

I've tried so many pads over the past 2 years. Yellowstuff is the only pad that has exceeded my expectations. Great cold bite, no noise, dust is easy to clean off, high friction pad

Akebono Euro - no stopping power and fades quickly

Portfield R4S - same as akebono but only marginally better. Worse than OEM pads by a lot.

Stoptech Sport - outdated formula. Dusty and not much performance gain. Cold bite isn't very good.

Upgrade from stock.

Less dust, stronger bite compared to stock and better resistance to fade.

Yellowstuff is NOT a track pad based on the newest formulation.

If you want to use something for both street and track and don't care about more noise and dust, get EBC bluestuff which is Yellowstuff but has more metallic content and a higher heat range.

My friend who is in the Motorsport Brake Industry, made me some custom street / track compound brake pads for the M3/M4 OEM 4/2 pot calipers 'Blue Brakes' and the M2C OEM 6/4 pot calipers for use with the steel/iron rotors. I am just in love with my braking performance! I personally switched to the Gold CCB calipers paired with Girodiscs. These pads my friend makes will work on both the OEM 4/2 pot calipers 'Blue Brakes' and the Gold CCB, the Silver M2C, and the Red M Performance 6/4 pot brake calipers.

The characteristics are low dust and low noise (not no noise) and they work very well under higher temperature and beginner to intermediate track use and are streetable as well. I personally run them on the street and another friend of my friends runs them on the track on his M2C and he is very quick and absolutely loves the pads.

My friend mostly private labels for a lot of other companies and works in the Motorsport market but made a few sets of these pads for me as a special request.

Compound - SP2
Material - Semi metallic
Temp range - 25 to 600 C
Thickness: 20 mm front, 18 mm rear (same as OEM thickness)

If anyone is interested in a set of pads for the front, rear or a complete set, please PM me and I can get you in touch with him.

Can anyone weigh in on the amount of dust these upgraded pads make? I personally would be content with OEMish stopping power with less dust.

Yellowstuff generates less dust than OEM. It's light grey and easy to remove with water.

One thing to note is both EBC Yellowstuff and Bluestuff (upgrade from yellow) are R90 approved for street use. This means they meet/exceed OEM spec in terms of cold braking ability among other things in Europe.

This makes sense since the yellow pads feel just like OEM+ with lighter dust.

I may run a combo of EBC Blue in the front and keep the EBC Yellow in the rear for better heat resistance.

EBC BlueStuff: excellent for street and good for track use. I have used it in M135 and M4. Next I will try DS2500 pads. Just because I’m curious to compare them to the Bluesuffs.

DS2500 won't be as good since the friction coefficient is less compared to Blue.

DS2500 is a terrible track pad. 1.11 is ok.

Never had issues with 1.11 on the street - they only made noise pre-bedding.

Damn, I really liked those Bluestuffs. Anyway the DS2500 brake pads are already on the garage table
Well, I’ll share my experiences with the DS2500 when I’ve been on track.
And I use OE brake disks.
