Oil change, they put in 7.5 litres

As per title. I’ve only seen now that the independent garage put in 7.5 litres instead of the standard 6.9

I’ve driven it 50km since and it drives fine with oil level at 100%

Should I have it drained and refill with 6.8 and then measure it again?

Thanks

There's no problem. You can run 7.5 every day.

Thanks for the quick reply. I saw a video on a GTS which has a larger oil capacity of 7.5 officially.

If there was way too much in mine would the sensor throw up a warning?

The sensor can measure an overfill condition but, like SYT_Shadow stated, you can safely run 7.5 L in a non-GTS. BTW, the GTS oil pan is identical to base/ZCP models. The only difference is a change in the height of the oil level sensor. BimmerWorld offers a kit to raise the oil level sensor so you can run 7.5 L without worrying about getting an overfill error message. Here’s a link to the BW kit (which states a max fil of 7.25 L):

The main concern of overfilling is typically foaming/froth of the oil which cause lubrication issues.

I was just checking over the engine and coolant fluids and this pipe seemed mega loose and not fully seated and clipped in as it just came away with no effort.

It’s correctly seated back now

What is it for ? And would a loose connection cause any issues

Hard to see from the photos but there was some brownish residue inside.

Thanks.

That’s the PCV valve, and yes, it being loose can and will likely cause problems. The pressure built up in your crankcase from blow-by recirculates through that valve and back into your intake through that tube.

If my eyes serve me right, that looks like it broke clean off, which is apparently a common problem with these motors because the plastic gets brittle. I would get that checked out ASAP.

Thanks. It seated back securely. Way more secure than the way I found it.

Update.

I hadn’t driven the car since I realised it was a litre too much so

I managed to get exactly one litre drained out and used a new drain plug and crush washer and torqued to 20nm

I took for a decent spin down the autobahn and city centre stop start driving and then measured the oil once it was up to temp.

It’s exactly the same level to the max as when I had 7.5 litres

Maybe the sensor has a tolerance before it trigggers a max warning?

Next step, should I change the oil and filter just to have a competely fresh start?

Thanks

I get it.

Given there must have been 100ml of residual oil before the addition of 7.5 litres it’s worth noting that the over the max warming didn’t come on and at the same time now that I’ve taken out exactly 1 litre the measurement reading is exactly the same

You got it. at this point you’ve done enough and the s55 will surely burn any concerns you have within the next 500 miles. The oil level sensor is so freaking annoying without a dipstick, I hate to play the guessing game along with inaccurate readings due to condensations, temperature sensitivity, and inclines.

My n52 has been begging for a quart for the last 100 miles. Now I’m at .5 over min
