Apex VS-5RS on Michelin 4S losing Air

Hello guys, M2 Competition owner here reposting my issue to see if some of you are having similar issues since you guys are more numerous

Here is my setup
Wheels: 19" Forged VS-5RS
Front: 19x9 ET30
Rear: 19x10 ET40

Tires: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
Front: 255/35-19
Rear: 275/35-19

installed last week and so far 3 wheels are losing air severely and did recheck them a the shop 3 times

I receive a private message stating that the Apex wheel and 4s tire combo looses air. the 4s tire has a smaller surface area where it meets the rim.

Is this really a known issue ??

Similar issue is experienced by Porsche owners : https://www.718forum.com/threads/ape...ir-leak.25622/

thanks

You’re more than likely losing air from the knurling on the wheel. We had to use bead sealant on the knurling to eliminate the air leaks.

Hey man , i just called Apex and actually he advised me Against using a Sealant on the Knurling because according to him it does Hinder the Performance of the Car, What is you take on that ?

Thanks

You can try having the shop dismount and remount your tires, but no guarantee that will work. Only thing that worked for us is using bead sealer, which is different than sealant.

I just picked up the VS-5RS with Michelin AS4s and noticed one wheel is leaking. I thought it could possibly be the valve stem since I used a used TPMS sensor but now I’m more concerned.

I just ceramic coated the wheels so I’m waiting for them to cure before going back to check for a leak, don’t want soapy water trashing the coating.

Yep known issue now, if i l knew before hand , i would have went with another combo, i love the lightness of the Apex's and the Performance of the 4S is unrivalled . now ill be adding a sealer this Thursday and hope for the Best.

Please refer to the Apex's answer on my thread on the M2 Competition Forum for the full Procedure

on the bright side i'm no longer losing air since last Monday ( 7days)

Thanks

Seems like it's somewhat isolated, lots of folks running these wheels. I read they recommended upping the PSI to the tire max (~50PSI) and then driving on it for a bit.

I inflated my bad tire to ~40psi and drove on it for a bit and it seems like it seated now. I lost about 5PSI and it seems to have stabilized, will keep an eye on it for the next few days.

Actually they recommend to pump it to 50PSI and NOT drive it, you leave it unmounted for about 10 min then deflate back to 35 or 38PSI and you should be good to go , if not you need a Sealer

Thanks

After a few more weeks I am noticing two of the other tires seem to be dropping very slowly but dropping none the less. Maybe 5 psi over two weeks?

Gonna double check the tire tomorrow to make sure I didn’t pick up a screw and see if I can spot any leaks from the bead or valve stem.

I did reinstall them with a sealer, i still suspect a slow leak but not as bad as it was , i'd say around 3psi after a week of install which is not that bad since i expect my tire set to last 2 years max , after so i will have to look for another brand of tires PS4S just seems to not be a fit for this Racy wheel due to the knurling .

Keep me posted on your issue please

Regards

Too bad to hear. I have no issue with vs5rs and continentals holding air. I imagine more Bead sealer is in order.

I’m in the same situation ,

I’ve been trying to seal them since July last year
They last a few months and then they need a massive quantity of sealant again

The paint is flaking since I got them plus they're corroding already

Yesterday I spent another half a day in the best tyre shop I know in my area, we tried a different tyre make and model same story

Garaged car I use just on weekends, just a few thousand miles, never seen winter with these wheels, i have a winter set of wheels
I’m in touch with Apex support since day 1 and I hope they can offer a proper resolution this time,I'm very frustrated

Some customer managed to get this sorted for good?
To me using a massive quantity of sealant is not a fix

My issue is for all 4

It's a shame because when they hold air in they're great

I hope to hear some good news from somebody else

Good lord , this is not reassuring , you mean it is still happening although you tried another Tire make ? which 1 was it ? and do you track your car or not even?

i was hopping my issue was fixed for good , I'm checking my tire pressure daily and so far so good , finger crossed

awaiting your reply

In the same boat.

When I had tyres originally mounted, the rears were leaking and bead sealer was used.
Fronts were fine.

Over time the fronts started leaking, and one of the rears started leaking ever so slowly.

Took them to tyre shop and they couldn't find any leaks at all, and didn't want to strip and re-mount them at that time.

I had the tyres off at home to try find the leaks myself with soapy water. Also tried inflating to 50psi.
I did find the leaks in the fronts. I thought I'd try hitting the tyre with a rubber mallet near the leak to see if it helped seat the bead. Got one to stop leaking. The other still has a slow leak.

The leaking rear I couldn't find a leak.

It's annoying as these cost me an arm and a leg to buy and freight to New Zealand. It's got to a point where I had to buy a portable air compressor which I use every 2-3 days.

This Sucks , if i knew i would have paid an extra money and go for the OEM 763M's . I thought the sealer would fix this but apparently not.

Mine seem to be doing ok for now but then again i just put the sealer 20 days ago and i'm concerned to see that it is not a definitive fix .

I'm also surprised to notice that nobody pointed out this issue on Forums before

I had the same issue. Took the car out to a track day at Gingerman and they are not leaking air. I'm sure running track duty on the tires helped seat the bead.
