There's a lot of variables in effect here and probably no exact way to purchase everything at once. Offsets, tire width/brand and suspension height are all factors to consider. With stock components, it's a bit easier to gauge since everyone has a similar baseline to work from.

I would recommend getting the wheels and tires first, then fine tuning with spacers (if even needed) after installation and after proper measurements are taken.

Tightie had no rubbing with the 20mm/20mm combo until the H&R Super Sports (435) were installed.

15mm/12mm would be better suited, but 10mm is a bit more conservative side.

I think I will go with 12/12 in case I decide to drop the car in the future.

tom, with the H&R sport spring drop, what is the most aggressive spacer size do you think can be use without rubbing?

I believe EAS has 12mm/12mm set up with H&R sport springs. This is what I'm going to do once I drop my M4. It's probably the most aggressive you can go without rubbing.

No issues, just got finished lowering another M4 with adaptive M suspension and 12/15mm spacer combo. Pictures to follow shortly.

Most aggressive with lowered setups would be 15/18mm combo. Might experience a minor bit of rubbing on bumps with kids/rear passengers/full tank.

How is the feel of the 4 series sports springs compared to the stock M4 adaptive setup?

Which setting are the sports springs closer to? Comfort, Sport or Sport+?

BMW lug torque has been 88 ft lbs as long as I can remember - is this one really different?

F-Chassis use a M14 lug, a bit larger than the M12 lug on the E-chassis models.

I was aware of that, but didn't know it changed the torque value. My ML uses 14mm lugs with and 88 ft lb spec. The "Owner's Manual" tells nothing any more, not torque or oil capacities. Frustrating for those of that still like to do a little wrenching.

ok folks I have a stupid question.

on some of the setups on here, the front wheels have larger spacers than the rear.
i.e.
front 18mm
rear 15mm

Can you please explain? Are the front wheels further "in" when compared to the rear?

i thought it was reverse. for the most aggressive set-up for lowered cars it was
front: 15mm
rear: 18mm

tom, can you please comment.

The front wheels have always been slightly more inset than the rears, even with the E46/E92 lineups.

ok, so front- 18mm, rear- 15mm should be good to go, correct?

Depends. There's always a few factors to keep in mind:

- Driving Habits: Aggressive, casual?
- Still running stock wheels/tires or aftermarket?
- Will you be running lowered suspension?
- Do you commonly drive with passengers?
- Kids in backseat? Usually means additional gear in trunk.

A single driver with stock/subtle drop on suspension will obviously have much more wiggle room than say a fully loaded setup with a full family.

15mm/12mm is a good conservative setup, 18mm/15mm is a bit more aggressive but should also be fine.

thanks for all your help. i do plan on lowering my M3 with H&R 435 sport springs and i think i'm going to try 18mm/15mm and see if there's any rubbing. if so, than i'll dial it back.
