Shopping my M3 as we speak and this thread and that look convinced me of getting 513 18s! Looks amazing.

Have 19s on my E92 335is and am sick of them getting beaten by DC roads. I drive so carefully but there is always the one not seen that seems to get hit every year.

Better contact, great look and lighter!? SOLD!

Yeah, the PSS on the 18s are beefy and the rim lip protection of the tires is pretty darn good. If you get 19s you run the chance of getting Contis. I had 19in aftermarket wheels on my F30 335 and I didn't wanna go that route again. The 513s are so light...and in person I think they look pretty awesome..especially for OEM wheels.

Several people have already mentioned on this thread that they plan to use the 513M wheels for a winter setup.
What's the major difference between the 513M and the 640M(18'') which BMW advertises as winter wheels. I know the width is different 9 and 10 for the 513 and 8.5 and 9 for the 640, but anything else apart from that?

Well for one the 640M are cast while the 513M are forged. The 640M are therefore heavier and less strong. The spokes on the 640M are quite thicker and have less space between the "twin spokes". And in terms of colour, the 640M are silver while the 513M are ferric grey, which is a darker shade of grey. Finally they have slightly different offsets (29/40 vs 27/29 F/R for the 513M vs 640M respectively).

Thanks, So then wouldn't you want a stronger wheel for winter anyway(more pot wholes, more snow on the ground so could be hitting more curbs), which would be the 513M instead of the 640M? I guess what am asking is what's special about the 640 that makes it the "winter wheels" apart from the fact that they are cheaper.

Narrower to fit narrower tires that are more appropriate for winter

Much less expensive to be exposed to road salt and the hazards of winter

Thanks for sharing.. The smaller and lighter they are the more wheel spin one is most like to get when taking off.

It's a tough road ahead for wheel manufacturers in order to keep within the ballpark of stock weights.

Switched from the stock 19s to the 18s and I feel an enormous difference with the road noise, acceleration, and deceleration. The car brakes so much easier. The brakes have more of a bite, and the torque transfer is amazing. Jesus, never knew 2lbs of rotational mass would do to a car's performance. I can imagine people buying those heavy wide wheels....or putting dubs on their M4....they must love the teeth grinding ride, cause I couldn't stand driving with the stock 19s.

Completely agree. Plus the 513Ms just look awesome.

Big time! Finally, found some people that agree. I too, agree and think the look of the stock 18 is just perfect. (with a slight drop of course =))BMW really hit the jackpot with this one. The wheels look amazing on M3s too...like E96 or E92 or whatever they are...the V8 one. I doesn't look like the usual M wheels. It's very, dare I say, race inspired? I kid you not, when I drive my car, I get tons of thumbs up and people staring at the wheels. I just noticed that the 18s make the brake rotors look massive. With a side view of the wheel, all you see is a giant brake rotor and immediately see the lip of the wheel when you start looking outwards towards he wheel. It looks so aggressive. Love it! =) Thanks for helping me swap them out. What would I do without you guys? *sigh*

Kentucky math here but isn't that ~6 lbs more unsprung per corner versus the 513s?? Keep your zcp 19hp for those hideous boat anchors (or trade/sell them)

In the following link the specs from the manufacturer.
Here you can also see the difference between normal and GTS 666M
The 513M is the only one which is stated as lightweight.

I have comp package and want switch to 513 wheels. Are the wheel sizes similar in diameter 20 vs 18? Would it mess with traction control? Can't find any info HELP.
