Looks like aftermarket wheels from the F10 5 series will transfer perfectly over to the F8x M3/4

My understanding:

There are a few negatives. First, you need longer bolts with spacers which increases the stresses in the bolts due to the increased bending forces and doubled shear points. Second is that you need to rely on two "friction" surfaces to hold the wheel in place instead of only one. Both of which increase the chance of a failure (minimal for street use, IMO).

Then, if you use spacers that alter the wheel center position relative to the hub (as opposed to using a spacer that brings an offending wheel back to OEM specs), you will affect how the suspension behaves. For example, I installed 15mm spacers in the front of my E92 M3 and I have clearly lost some steering feel because of it. This would also impact how the wheel bearings are loaded and could lead to premature wear (which could end up being negligible over the life of the car).

Naturally, the larger the spacer and/or the larger the change of the wheel to hub position relative to OEM spec, the greater the impacts.

I'm in Southern California. We don't have "winter wheels" here. We roll on 20's all year long.

No since there was no CCB option that would preclude 18" winter wheels.

And are the winter wheels designed differently to deal with lower temperature somehow, or is it just an alternate style with narrower wheels to allow skinnier tires? Too bad only the winter 19s are square to allow rotation, too.
It's just that they are narrower, yes.

What boring offsets. I would prefer a concave wheel.

the 19" winter wheel looks awesome (probably the best in my eyes)...too bad they don't come in 19x10 for the rears though, they would make a great all-year wheel.

Why is it that no one is concerned about wheel weight, that's the #1 question I want to know after the wheel size and construction. What is up with all the use of spacers, all they do is add weight, weaken bolt integrity, adds another friction point and cost money - if one can afford a $62k car can they not afford the wheels?

A +40mm offset means that the wheel hub mounting flange is 40mm from the wheel centerline towards the outside of the wheel. A aftermarket wheel with a +25 offset means that the mounting flange has been moved 15mm further inwards towards the wheel centerline, i.e a deeper dish/more concave wheel is made possible.
these

there are a lot of people posting in this thread who do not understand wheel fitment or offsets...
Um yeah. It also depends on how much clearance you have on the fender side right? You can lower the offset the wheel itself will now get pushed more out getting closer to the fender.

And there are a bunch of other factors. Clearance to the strut, the overall width of the wheel, blah blah.

Is there 15mm clearance? Prob. But i dont consider +25 concave whatsoever are they? Especially on a bigger wheel. Look at the te37 19" +22. Then look at 18"+22. Then possibly a 20" on this car.

I couldn't imagine a 19"+25 to look concave at all. Then look at 19" +teens on other cars like a 370z.

You cant just say i want x offset because it will give more concavity on a wheel and slap it on.

How do i not understand wheel fitment?

If the f10 could be a guage what are those guys running with an 11" wheel, which i suspect ppl will be getting on the new m3/4.

19x11+30 to 40?

If anyone wants to learn more about the topic of off-sets, spend a few minutes on this site and you can answer all of your questions as there are a lot of variables to take into consideration.

oh gosh...ok here we go.

10" wheel with +40 offset vs. 11" wheel with +15 (super deep concave)

its 38mm "more aggressive" (for lack of a better term), or 38mm more towards the outside. Add in a chunkier beefier tire that most of us almost always decide to run. is there almost 2" of space to work with on the outside?

an 11" with +25 could possibly work as it is about an inch more out...but with fatter tires maybe close again.

with the stock size wheel its exactly like putting a 15mm spacer to the stock wheel (going to +25 from +40) but who wants stock sizes?!

id imagine ppl putting wider wheels, fatter tires on the new car with all that power.

this is what i was talking about.

I sure didnt need an offset calculator for that but i guess ppl need specifics in here

I actually found them to be already very concave? I saw these in person at the Brussels autoshow an thus very surprised by the high offsets.

I certainly hope we will be able to fit the BBS FI with the F10 M5 fitment!

I'm curious too - the ss2 m3 I saw at the dc car show had black painted areas around the center and sides of chrome-like spokes much brighter than these.

I bet you can fit 15-20mm more aggressive offsets than stock (like always) so it shouldn't be a problem!

Wow those offsets and widths are pretty low? Fronts not too bad, but those rears... Could just about fit on a non m with some guard work..

How would the 219M wheels, OEM 18s from E92 fit for winter setup?
18 x 8.5 offset 29 front
18 x 9.5 offset 23 rear

Anyone here care to hazard a guess as to whether the F10 M5 20's will fit?

Did you search to see if you could find wheel widths and offsets? That'll give you pretty much what you need to know.

I have the exact same winter wheel spec (270M) and I believe they will fit just fine on the F8X. The outside of the wheels will be approximately at the same position as the stock summer wheels for a decent look. I presently use 15mm spacers in rear with those winter wheels on my E92 to get rid of that "in-board" look the 270M have in the rear. With the 40ET offset, I will have the same look without the spacers.

I also plan on going to 245/40-18 PA4 once my 235/40-18 PA3 are worn out.
