HELP: Rear tyre rubbing
Hi, guys. I have a 2017 f80 m3 competition. The factory set for rear is 20x10, 285/30 r20, Just bought set of vorsteiner vff103 today. Its 19x10.5. The tyre is pirelli p zero 295/35 r19. Normal driving is ok. But there is some rubbing sound when pass speed bump. And u can clearly see some mark on the tyres. Wheels shop ppl recommend me do wheel alignment And tiny negative camber. But My friend saying its tyre issue. I should go 285/30 r19. Or maybe even 275. When i park on my grass. One side Got compressed. Thats how i realize how tiny the space between tyre And guard. So.....should i just change the tyres Or wheel alignment to fix it?
By the way, the suspension is all stock. Thanks guys. Last edited by Bentusi123; 11-20-2021 at 07:11 AM.. |

Alignment shop…since you're low. Need more negative camber…or less drop if springs adjust.
Also, where the rear quarter panel meets the plastic bumper feel inside that joint and you'll feel the metal edge that's scraping your tire. Have the shop sand that edge smooth (I filed mine down).

Yo!
What is the offset of the new wheels? The rear fenders of these cars have a ton of room, but proper offset is key for 10.5 wide with 295's. TopJimmy's advice is sound as well. Although you did say the suspension is stock. So camber is your friend.... good luck! josh |

He has Vorsteiners... if they are the F8x specific wheels then there is no better offset for the car at 10.5 rears. I have the same and I am pretty low and they rub when turning into semi-large stepped entrys. I had 305 once and they rubbed going down the road on high compression bumps

The only two things I can think of is the slightly taller sidewall of the 295/30-20 compared to the oem zcp MPSS 285/30-20 and maybe your rear negative camber needs to be increased. I run -1.9 deg of camber on the rear. Do you know your rear camber setting? |

I had the exact same issue when i changed from Pilot Super Sports to Pilot Sport Cup 2s
I had Eibach lowering springs, 15mm spaces all round, 666M with Pilot Super Sports. No problem I then fit Pilot Sport Cup 2 on the same 666M alloys, same lowering springs and spacers. Same issue as you, fine with normal driving however scrubbed on every speed bump and it was even worse when i had passengers in the back. Super Sports and Cup 2 were both the same size: 285/30R20 Swapped the 15mm spacers for 12mm spacers and that fixed the issue. Attachment 1Attachment 1Attachment 1 |

without having the information off of your wheels, I'm going to base this on the info I gathered and assume it's correct.
As I understand it the offset on a stock 10 inch wide wheel is 40mm. And the offset on the new wheels is 35mm. 5mm works out to be about two tenths of an inch. So basically the new wheels are sitting .2 of an inch further outboard and that could be enough to be the problem. Going with a 285 section width tire is 10mm narrower which puts 5mm less on the inside and 5mm less on the outside which is about the same as what the difference offset is. Not sure if they make the wheel with an offset other than 40mm so there may not be anything you can do there. Not sure if the tire is available in the proper 285mm width. Or 275mm if you wanted to another step narrower. You could mess with the alignment... but that's just putting a Band-Aid on the issue and not correcting the problem. |
