Where to Buy Front Strut Bearings

I’m thinking of replacing my front strut bearings to see if that get la rids of the front strut clunk and low/zero speed turning.

(1) anywhere I can purchase them WITHOUT the top hats?
(2) is there an upgrade to the OE bearing that is better to go with?

I only see the top hat and bearing together on FCP.

Are you talking about the spring thrust bearing or the strut piston rod shaft bearing?

If it’s the first, Ground Control uses the stock spring thrust bearing in their camber plates. They sell replacement thrust bearings.

Unaware of an aftermarket thrust bearing. Stock is your only option.

The one that goes on the underside of the top hat or camber plate and sits atop the front spring.

What’s the proper name?

It’s the main spring thrust bearing. GC has them in stock usually.

You have to buy the whole strut mount. They don't sell it separately.

Ground Control doesn’t? They sell replacement parts for all replaceable parts of their camber plates. The thrust bearing fails often and they don’t force you to buy a completely new camber plate.

GC doesn't use the stock F2X/F3X/F8X thrust bearing in their camber plate. They use that stupid E39/46 thrust bearing that gums up quickly and falls apart. It works in those older designs because of how much better it's shielded from contaminants, but really sucks in the GC one.

I haven’t looked at my GC camber plate since 2016 but I recall it looking like the f8x thrust bearing. However, eight+ years is a long time. Thanks.

+1. I've had that eBay listing saved for a long time for anyone looking for new thrust bearings.
Can anybody confirm for me if the ebay bearings fit on our f82 m4 top mount?
The design looks slightly different from the original bearings I have on my f82 m4 zcp.

Have you checked the swaybar endlinks? Mine clunked when they werent torqued to spec. Check both attachment ends.

Funny enough, I just did this about a week or two ago. I actually think one of my issues is that I need to find longer adjustable endlinks than the Bimmerworld ones I have. Maybe an endlink that extends to 14” or a little more.

I have the Bilstein-Evolve dampers and the adjustable endlinks I need are def longer than OE length. I currently have the Bimmerworld ones on, but they’re essentially at their absolute max length and I would actually prefer to be able to have more threaded engagement at the two ends.

My other option would be to buy the Powerflex swaybar bushings, so I can freely rotate the bar up, and effectively shorten the required endlink length.
