Why Everyone Comparing M3/M4 to 911S instead of 911?
Ok - Porsche makes great cars - absolutely no doubt about it.
That being said, why on earth does everyone on here compare the F8x M3/M4 to the 911S (991 chassis) rather than the base 911? The base 911 (with "only" 350 hp) has a base MSRP of $84,300 - whereas the M3 and M4 are at $62K and $64.2K - so based upon price - this is a much "closer" comparison that the 9112S model with base MSRP of $98,900. Classic example of "apples to oranges..." Second, everyone is eager to compare the 7:50 Nurburgring Nordschleife time of the M3/M4 to the 7:37 time of the 911S... In case anyone didn't notice, however, the 911 "base" model (991 chassis) was 8:02 on the 'ring. Given that the M4 is $20k cheaper than the 911 base model, why isn't anyone comparing the base model? (Notice how the 7:50 time is roughly halfway in between the 8:02 time of the $84k model and the 7:37 time of the $98K model)??? Third - the 911 is designed from the "ground up" as a pure sports car - the M3/M4 are basically performance versions of "everyday" 3 and 4 series cars... Like I said - Porsche makes fantastic cars - but the whole nonstop M3/M4 vs. 911S comparison, is, in my opinion, one of the most non-sensical comparisons out there [end rant]... If anyone can come up with a logical reason to compare these cars, I'd love to hear it... |

I'm with you Slide, for once it would be lovely to read about something else than these, I for one would be in a Porsche forum, if I wanted to rant about them endlessly, here it would be lovely to read for once someone being positive without a pack of wolfs immediately starting to claw their own opinion in, and always a freaking Porsche is on the table. There are other cars! My dream Saab would so kick the F80/F82's arses! Just wait and see if I ever get one, it can actually hit 10 miles per hour if pushed to the limit!
Lups, the resident Porsche haters club president, since I did not take over the world yet, this has to be the title. Last edited by Lups; 05-23-2014 at 02:14 AM.. Reason: I fucked up the best title I ever had. :( |

Cars are supposed to be fun, but this Porsche thing has been taken to the limit of absolutely idiotism. My neighbor drives Carrera S, and when push comes to shove, she's still a female behind the wheel, and I have the extras in the form of retrofitted balls, so she will not beat me. If she does, I have the vocabulary to come up with extremely great excuses. Let's live a little, it's just a flipping forum. Lups, Working on my title, so world dominant, Porsche haters club president, and of course supreme being. |

9/10 times on a car forum the presence of a female is lauded simply because we are all car nerds and females generally do not exist in this world. In your case, the quips and jabs would be equally welcome if you were male. Respect. |

I'm aware of the status of non existing creature here, and my way of writing is not normal by any standards, but as a road user, active one I could add, I have to say that in many ways the sad truth is that we who like the power, act like small children while in the net. Someone always be faster, and not because of the power, it will be the person pushing the vehicle. There is about two people on this forum, who knows how to get the best of the performance, and the rest of us are posers, who need the best numbers to feel free to shout on an other forum. My big problem is, why cars, driving, the reason to buy can not be for the sheer will to enjoy life, and end up as a pretty corpse in the end. Lups, title won't be needed for long here, since I poked wrong bears finally. Last edited by Lups; 05-23-2014 at 01:53 AM.. Reason: Changing alcohol to an animal. :D |

The 7.50min is until today only the time the 2002 M3 CSL reached on the NOS in his "Supertest" and has nothing to do with the F8xM3/M4. Lets wait until June 13th. and see what happens and how the real SPORTAUTO time would be ! |

I disagree with you. It is often overshadowed by the 991 Carrera S and is an excellent driving car in it's own right.

Dag Johnsen posted a lap time of 7.44 in his 991 Carrera PDK. The 'base' 991 is no slouch. |

You could have just stated youre rant in this thread:
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=976537 And like others have said, I started it against the C2S because of the power output. Not because of the price

Just a heads up though: I do a fair amount of reading on the Rennlist forums, and Dag's 7:44 in the base 991 was a BTG time. He even states himself that his comparable "Sport Auto lap" time is roughly 8:02.5 and his comparable full lap is roughly 8:07.7 by his estimation. |
