EBC RP-1 / RP-X pads experience?
I plan on doing a few tracks days in the M3C and as usual, my first worry is the OEM pads strength so looking to replace them soon (they're half worn already), or I might even be swapping them on and off for track days.
To my surprise, I've seen people mostly talking about the Red and Yellowstuff pads which to me are mediocre pads, as in "OEM+" levels but no real braking improvement. I would at minimum go for the Bluestuff NDX ones which are kind of a hybrid track/street pad and have proven pretty good to me in the past, not for all-out racing but able to handle a few hot laps, but with the car being stage 2 and its weight I think I would like to try the next tier from EBC, their RP-1/X series. Both rated for hard track use, one suited for stronger initial bite, the other one for better modulation (I think the latter is what's needed on BMW brake systems as they feel slightly over-servoed? ) So any experience with the above mentioned pads? Is it possible to daily them even or noise will be terrible? Other suggestions for that level of performance? https://ebcbrakes.com/race-motorspor...-or-rp-x-pads/ |

Yellow stuff offers significant stopping power improvement over stock, but they are not trackpads. They get the job done on the street.
In your case, the RP pads are the way to go. I did not use them on my car but i can vouch for all EBC products.

At least for me, both Yellowstuff and Bluestuff NDX have worked very well offering significant improvement to their respective applications used, so I can only go with EBC again. RP- seem to offer excellent track performance I'm just wondering whether i could get away with daily-ing them as well. Cold bit is not an issue apparently so it's down to noise and brake dust I imagine. Bluestuff NDX have worked very well on a similar car (power and weight wise) to the M3 so they could be an easier pad to live with I guess. I'll leave this open until maybe someone can chime in with first hand experience of those. |

I use the rp-x, it’s my favorite pad.
I only have a few min but here’s my notes: Bite from full cold High coefficient of friction Not hard on rotors Near 0 noise High temp ceiling Use with Ti brake pad backing plates for an even higher temp ceiling Use with Girodisc rotors or equivalent for best cooling Use Castrol SRF or equivalent

Just ordered these for front and rear and going to try them out. I have decent amount of experience with DS 1.11 and currently 2 sets of ds 3.12s so very interested in comparing. I do daily my 3.12 which are surprisingly not noisy at all especially after some brake grease and titanium shims. Anyone know if the SR-11 or SR-21 are available in the m3 blue caliper sizes? |
