Coilover Suggestions Please

Hello everyone,

A bit of background.

Bought a used '18 plate Comp M3 back in 2020.

The car was riding on BC BR coilover from the previous owner, that were downright awful.

Reading up on the forums I see that MCS has very good reviews and Nitron as well.

I am no longer fussed about the EDC and in fact leaning towards going 3-way and coding it out. Car is 70% street, 30% track use now, with that becoming 60/40 next year.

What do you guys recommend? my top 4 options are:

Nitron R3
MCS 3 way
Moton 3 way
JRZ 3 way

Budget up to 6k gbp or $7.5k

Nitron has an edge for being local to me in the UK and for having excellent relationship with Center Gravity which is my much prefered suspension specialist.

Please help me make a decision.

Cheers.

So my take on things...

All of your choices are basically the same quality and level of performance. You simply can't go wrong.

Some things to consider.

Nitron:
-Complete package with front camber plates all with one manufacturer.
-Direct Support in the UK

MCS:
- 90% complete you will need to determine the type of front camber plates to run. Options are Ground Control (most common), Millway, Vorshlag or Bimmerworld Pill Style (if i were to do this again i would run the Bimmerworldsetup)
-Need Adjustable Drop links not included with kit
- MCS has a European Distributor with great support.

Moton:
- Similar to MCS in almost every way
- 100% complete
- Needs Drop links
- Direct EU Support

JRZ:
- Similar to Moton and MCS
- 100% complete
- i believe they include drop links
- Direct EU support.

One other company you might want to consider is Intrax Suspension. They have a system with ARC control and Adjustable spring rates. I am using this setup on a different car which is 90% track 10% street.
https://www.intraxracing.nl/en/produ...4-also-cs-gtr/

The only thing you will need to consider is spring choice, the shocks form any of these companies will offer more adjustability than you will ever want or need.

Spring rates will determine how smooth or harsh the car will ride during street use.

I would say the MAX spring rates that is tolerable for street use are 700lb F 650lb R. anything beyond those rates will be a more like 100% track use.

Other variables when selecting spring rates:
Sway bar options
Aero
Brakes

FWIW I went with MCS due to local support and I already owned a set of GC Camber plates.

Thanks for the great info, you have placed the Intrax bug in my mind now.

I have been reading up and people seem happier with Intrax than Nitron.

I sent them an email and looking forward to discussing and learning more about them.

Which one are you running on your cosworth?

Intrax 1K2 with ARC and spring adjusters front and back.

The only thing i don't like on my Intrax setup for the Cosworth is the lack of camber adjustment. I ended up swapping the intrax camber plate with a GC camber plate.

But on the F80 you won't have this issue.

If you’re looking at true race dampers, go with a company that has good support relative to where you live. I run MCS and in the states it’s very easy to get in touch with them and get shocks rebuilt.

Just spoke to the Intrax rep in the UK and I think I am convinced for the 1K2's with ARC and Coating but no spring adjusters.

He rebuilds the shocks in his workshop which is very close to me.

A 3 way setup is pretty hard core and might be overkill depending on your usage and skill.

I have MCS 2 way remote and it's pretty darn capable and simple to dial in. It's robust too...mine have 15k miles which include 40 track days.

Indeed, as the Intrax rep confirmed as well, I will be much happier with the 1K2 system which is 2 way effectively.

I've had my Nitron r1 installed for about 4 months now and I am loving it. Dialed in it is very compliant and as a daily I think it feels better than OEM. I was worried that it would be too bouncy but it soaks up normal everyday driving roads so well. Rebound is amazing and no longer feel the bounce after you hit a bump. Highly recommend.
