Have they disabled comments before? Or is it solely based on the normal reaction to G8x content?

In other news my G80 order has been sitting in the order bank for a while now and BMW just kicked it to a 2022 model but still no allocation. Still on the fence on whether I actually go through with it but as so many other people have mentioned not much else there comparable to an M3. Either new G80 or just keep my F80.

Meh the M3 has lost that "nothing compares to it" edge IMO. The looks were a huge part of that and the G8x looks like doodoo.

Basically, there is no longer anything unique about the M3.

(well.. one thing, but we aren't supposed to mention that)

Yes, but not just on looks.

The M3 used to be the car that was just competent enough for the track, just elegant enough for the opera and subtly tasteful enough for the country club, all while having enough pure go to ward off the stoplight people. In other words, it garnered universal respect. Hell, when Top Gear tested the e92 vs the Prius at full bore (for the Prius) and got better economy in the M3, even the ecocrazies were humbled.

Now, it's just a, "you scratched my anchor," bruiser designed for wannabe inatastars screaming, "look at me," as they struggle to keep their heads above the endless wake of everything-looks-the-same condos built upon the Dangerfield that was once the track, the opera, the country club, and in some cases, the stoplights!

Is it any wonder BMW is shouting, "I get no respect!"

Yeah I agree. You pretty much hit the nail on the head. The M3 was a symbol of can do pretty much anything fairly well but also an absolute looker / status symbol. I was always more on the "I just want a beautiful mountain carver" M3 owner and not really a track guy. Now I wouldn't buy it for either of those uses.. M2 IMO is the best new M you can buy today and its not even close.

I agree with everyone but really stuck between a rock and hard place (not really) but I like to believe I am. I like M2s but prefer 4 doors so that is out for me. Ad nauseum on all the other choices so maybe just stick with my F80.

Why do you really want to change from the F80?

If you have an 18 F80 M3 you like I say keep it. Its by no means a perfect car (exhaust note) but its pretty damn good and gorgeous. I regret selling my 15 F80 to this day.. not so much my M4 lol. Now the cost of entry for an F80 is just too high for me to justify. I cant pay used what I paid new for my 15.

Honestly? Just get bored after a while and I think my F80 is the longest I have ever kept a car. That combined with owning a 2015 F80 as well it would be the longest I have ever owned a single model car so that must say something.

Exhaust note doesn't bother me, I think the only thing that does is what I already stated, boredom. Looking at buying another set of HREs and maybe move from springs to coil overs as well, both of which will renew my interest for a little bit. And I agree the price for entry into an 18 F80 in some instances is more for what I paid new for my 18 which is nuts.

That has always been my biggest gripe with the Golf R. Would love to see a 400hp version!
Unfortunately, I don't think VW will ever go that route. In my opinion it would sell.

Yeah, that would totally make Audi happy, more power than the RS 3... Cupra/Seat is getting the five pot now in one of their SUVs, but it still is (and has to be) less powerful than the Audi variant because VAG hierarchy.

Thing is, VW has once built a Mk7 Golf with an Audi inline five. DSG, 550PS and carbon ceramics. Fully working car on normal reg plates. There's one video of it, I'd have to dig it out.

So no fun allowed thanks VAG

I guess on the positive end of things they're still making them so there's that.

stumbled across this today ... whether you want to listen to it all, do listen to the first 55 seconds as THAT was unexpected ... but overall a great interview:

Listening for road and wind noise - a way of measuring the air turbulence of the aero.
