(Although, our imaginary vegan friend would be quite upset with the leather trim on the carbon structure seats...) I'm trying to decide this now...not what other people think, but what I want! Unfortunately I have not been able to see the cloth seats. My other cars have a WHOLE LOT of leather and I wouldn't mind a break from adding another leather-heavy car.

Tell them it's something you deeply regret so they can continue feeling pompous and superior.
In seriousness, I originally had the speed cloth ordered because I like cloth for many practical purposes, but felt at a certain point that I would regret not having the luxurious feel of a leather interior. Also, I've never had a car with a leather interior before, so that was another reason. At the end of the day, you have to go with what you want and not look back. The fact that you feel regret tells me you didn't really consider what you wanted before you ordered your car. Don't worry, this is common. I'm already wishing I ordered mine in AY.

I chickened out on my cloth order. Maybe if I had the chance to see, and feel it in person ahead of time...

Yes, for $950 it seems very very affordable. Full leather vs CS would have been an easy decision based on cost. That said, a lot of folks just prefer the carbon-structure seats so it is a win win for them

I sat in one at the dealer when configuring my build, and it *almost* made me change to Carbon Structure. I was very impressed with it's grip, comfort and the way it looked.
Ultimately I went with Full Leather because I wanted the full leather dash, not so much the seats themselves. As I told my CA, if I could get a full leather dash and doors *with* the Carbon Structure seats it would be a no-brainer for me. But alas, no such option exists The seats themselves look dandy. I was impressed and I went in there expecting to not be impressed by them. But true, JoefromPA speaks very highly of his and after seeing them in person, I agree. Still going for full leather, but would be very happy in CS. |

With a car priced like that it should be about personal preference. Whether it is about looks, feel or it not being worth it to you. This is a YOU car. I have extended leather and love it. Not for rational reasons, as I get soaked while driving in the DC summer, but I like it. If you are practical, carbon interior is for you. And you're the only one who gets to make that choice.
Enjoy your vehicle. |

I like good quality cloth seats ( unusual now a days ), though I think the M3 has gone to big and upscale for them. It's today's M5 and leather is a better fit IMO.

Glad to see I'm making an impression on others
Listen there's no wrong choice here. I even like the tan leather on white or silver stone. My advice to builders is to either go with full leather or carbon structure. One other thing is that the leather touches in the carbon structure interior are very well done. It's a tougher grade of leather with a contrasting stitching complimentary to the color scheme and it's in just the right places: bolsters, knee pads, and door pulls. I will say that it's more comfortable at reducing sweat than the outstanding caramel leather in my e39 m5. That was a big surprise or unexpected bonus for me. I had forgotten how much cloth against the backside breathes. |

Now, when we talk about the knee pad and the door pulls, things get more murky. These definitely don't appear to be Merino in our CSAT cars but are they even Merino in leather-equipped cars? I ask because a number of surfaces in the leather equipped car are actually Walknappa instead of Merino as I understand it. So in this case I think they may be the same in all cars. It appears this way to me, but I would have to see them side by side in person to convince myself one way or the other. |

I went to the BMW event in queens and sat in a leather equiped car. The leather on the thigh bolster and the leather on the outside portion of the same area are definately different.

You won't be regretting it if you plan to keep the M for the next 15+ years. Premiums reflect rare specs as this (a la E46 right now). Big money for cloth and no sunroof.

I'd get cloth, but hate that the bolsters are still leather. Looks mismatched to me. Also, I hate the way the leather wears in contrast to the cloth. The cloth looks great after a few years and the bolsters are all worn out.
Other than that, it's a superior option for staying in place and comfort. |

I checked out M4 with cloth and 6 MT.
I must say that 6 MT feels much nicer than E9X. Clutch felt a little too springy and throws are still too long but shifts felt crisp and just enough feedback that you've arrived at selected gear.
Cloth seats looked cheap and I personally thought they don't belong in this car. Middle of the seat is cloth and the sides are fake leather which almost looked plastic. Not a fan. Last edited by SOM3; 10-16-2014 at 03:43 PM.. |

I wouldn't mind the cloth if:
A) the bolster leather was still Merino B) one could opt for full leather (dash area etc) w/ cloth inserts

I hope you already realized that our interior is plan cheap. Everything use to be screwed in with BMW but now popped in like Ford. It's simply garbage with a nice sheet cover to make it look nice . I can say why dress it up in leather? It's just a good all around beater car in the end and I feel adequate and comfort is the key. Go sit in a modern Ferrari or other high end cars and you will realize their interior craftsmanship is in a different league. |
