Oh you guys are great!

Ok first I get off work at 7pm so checked it out around 7:45pm. Asked tons of questions, went home for dinner and now the update:

I'm 95% sold on it. I have a few concerns which are mostly cosmetic, but I have it on hold until I get a PPI done tomorrow or Wednesday.

The car is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous and I can see the previous owner did PPF the whole car so the cosmetic concerns might not be too bad.

The MPE tips looks odd to me as though they're different sizes. Maybe adding the CF tips will remedy that.

Here's the good stuff. My theory was right. Exchange student dumped this car before heading back to hometown and took about a $20k loss. Salesmen tells me occasionally Caramax has sold cars under market value if it's not caught within the first 5 days after inspection which might be the case. That is the only time they can change the price.

I'm excited but need to stay wise and make sure all checks out. Oh and does have a light, faint cigarette scent which really bummed me out but typical salesman "oh that's easy to remove" talk. I'll do my own research on that.

Thank you all for your support so far. It's kind of weird how a group of strangers (I mean BMW com padres) are assisting me with a car purchase ha!

Now for quick iphone pics including the blemishes:

I think as another member pointed out it does not have exec package. Which is a bummer, but still seems to be a good deal.

EDIT: I wonder if that "67" circled on the sticker price was a final agreement price after rebates, incentives, etc...

If MSRP is 76 or 78 and CarMax is selling for 20 below that, he took a bigger bath than $20k.

If selling for $59, no way they paid more than $50

Carmax usually goes for 50% markup. Buy for $12, sell for $18.

I cannot imagine they only paid $40, but then again....

The MPE tips are different sizes because it’s missing haha
Good thing is that all of that should be fixable by Carmax if you point it out.

I agree. This guy got hosed but apparently it's very "normal" for my local Carmax due to the unique volume of exchange students getting out of leases early, however the numbers still don't make sense to me for Carmax profit margin. The car should easily be listed around $65k and would move.

Salesman says they bought it closer to mid 50s which I don't believe either and quite frankly don't care.

Haha for real... "it's so easy to remove the cigarette scent that we didn't even bother to do it"

Stay tuned for more episodes of "Did he buy the M3"?

Oh! Man thanks for that. It's been a while since my E92 M3 so I knew what everything should look like, but I was like well this looks odd.

Yea he did mention aside from the factory BMW warranty, Carmax has a 30 day warranty of anything that should be fixed or replaced. I will point that out.

There was a Carmax F83 in the Service Bays of a local dealer several weeks ago.

When it gets over the Carmax Service Heads, apparently they have to send it to the BMW Dealership.

With the money you saved, buy this Euro Bumper, send it cross country on Greyhound for $85, have a Pro paint it and call it a day. Some funky looking stuff in the paint on that bumper besides the obvious gashes.

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1404329

Besides smoking, how’s the rest of the interior considering he treated the rest of the car like crap?

Yes, forgot to mention that. THANK YOU for the link. Kill 2 birds with one bumper by replacing the front license plate holes and his careless driving for the front bumper.

Surprisingly, he kept the interior very clean and it has M Performance floor mats which is odd but hey I'll take it. I imagine this guy was in his mids 20s, single and occasionally had a front passenger. The back seat belts were buckled and looked as though never used. The main touch points had no signs of wear, but it was close to dusk so a more thorough visual inspection is coming within 48 hours upon purchase.

Overall, I'm very pleased with everything and the only major con is it doesn't have the exec package which I've read is a major selling point down the line.

That MPE burble overrun is GLORIOUS and made me giggle like Quagmire.

Ah, now I see a possible reason why they priced it at $59k (and also how they possibly got it for a very low price as well). They probably factored in the cost of a new bumper and a new MPE and adjusted the price accordingly

MSRP for new bumper $865 and can be found in the $500s. Add another $1000 to repair and replace. Entire MPE isn’t missing either. Still far below market.

Agreed. OP you are in LA right? Just go over to Justin.AutoTalent and I'm sure he can have it all fixed for you. Especially the exhaust. I think he is a forum sponsor IIRC.

Update:

^^ Thank you both for the shop recommendations, I've heard of both and will be looking into these options soon.

I slept on it and decided I'm gonna pull the trigger on this M3! I like to wait until my emotions calm down and think as logical as possible and when I told my main BMW tech about it he said I'd be stupid not to get it especially if I can return it within 5 days for any reason (Carmax policy).

I plan on getting the CF tips for the MPE anyways but will still see if Carmax will get the missing ones replaced. It's killing my OCD looking at the exhaust like that.

I appreciate all of you so much on such a strange and unexpected purchasing experience. I'll be sure to update with pics once she's in my arms

All I have left to do is sign some dotted lines baby!

I agree with you and the others, of course. If Carmax decided to discount by the retail value, their loss is OP's gain.

Thanks for the tag! I appreciate you recommending us

We can definitely examine the exhaust, however body work we leave that to the professionals.

We work very closely with Nate @ CnC Collision and Stan @ Santa Monica Body Craft.

Nate did Richy Rich's Frozen Brilliant White M3 and Stan did our customer's Mineral White 3D Design F80:
