AR catless with resonators probably sounds the best

Active Autowerke with swain coating is probably best in terms of heat transfer
Swain Coatings are awesome. I've been using them for years on my cars. First time use was on a VW diesel turbo manifold. We tuned the diesels and really pushed the EGT. The turbo manifold was right next to the intake manifold. The swaintech coating really worked to keep the heat transfer. You could reach back and touch the turbo manifold on cold start up and feel how long it took for the heat to surface.

Just installed a downpipe on my new diesel truck and I sent it off to be coated by swaintech.

Anybody spending the time and money on a modded M should highly consider the coating.

Just installed an active autowerks downpipe and the fitment was spot on .I liked that they have the flex section like the stock ones. Should have opt in for the swain coating

probably only a slight increase in power in extreme hot weather, think Las Vegas summer, as the down pipe coating would lower underhood temps.

I had coated the downpipe on my previous VW. While installing the pipe and checking for leaks with the engine running I could put my bare hand on the coated pipe. The uncoated stock pipe got hot quickly and I had to avoid it while under the car.

Are there any high-flow catted downpipes available? Or since there are secondary cats do people just generally go catless with the downpipes?

Downpipes... a piece of metal that needs to withstand high temps... turns into an ugly discoloration of metal after you use it. Buy a used one off a person who leased their car.

Correct on a track / racecar this is key. On a street car it wont be as noticeable but the more heat you can transfer out of the engine bay the better.

You're making intercooler because it will make money or because you saw the limit of stock coolers and can make a better one with logs to prove the difference ?

We've put our shop M4 through the ringer both on the street and the track. From the data we've gathered, the stock cooling system can not keep intake temperatures in check on when running aggressive tunes. Upgraded turbo cars are even more greatly affected. We'll have pictures along with more info of both upgrades shortly

If we're still debating which downpipes, here's 20 independent, link-backed reviews from customers who have had nothing but great experiences with the VRSF downpipes:

Unlike many of the cosmetic exhaust coatings, Swain Tech Coating’s White Lightning Exhaust Coating is a REAL ceramic coating – an exceptional insulating material. Since White Lightning is such a great insulating material, it is applied nearly five times thicker than a cosmetic coating. Additionally, White Lightning has performance enhancing benefits that cannot be matched by other cosmetic exhaust coatings.

Applied in a molten state, the ceramic coating bonds directly to the exhaust component. Typically a White Lightning coating can reduce radiant heat by roughly 35-55% - thus reducing engine bay and intake air temperatures.

“A 10°F reduction in intake air temperature provides a 1% increase in horsepower. A 30°F reduction equates to a 3% horsepower increase.” – Swain Tech Coatings

Furthermore, the insulating properties of the coating keep exhaust gases at the highest temperature possible creating greater exhaust gas velocity and higher efficiency. With the melting point of the White Lightning coating being over 3,000°F, you will not have to worry about damaging the coating.

The most remarkable feature of the White Lightning coating is how quickly it dissipates heat. Less than an hour after running hard, the downpipes will be cool to the touch allowing you to work around them without being concerned about scalding yourself.

When contemplating whether or not to add the optional White Lightning coating to your F80 M3 or F82 M4 Active Autowerke Downpipes – remember it is all about gaining that extra bit of performance!

If you guys want to break the internet, you would put a cyber monday deal on these

cant wait to get mine

Just ordered my Active Autowerkes.

Flex joint and the heavy duty OEM looking support mount, OEM BMW had them for a reason maybe it will be crucial 30-40k miles down the line.

Gives me peace of mind.

Nothing crazy, not "that" important. Akrapovic, FI, Gintani, Eisenmann, and Active are the only ones who utilize it. OEM downpipes have flex joints
