Blown differential

Initially, I just thought the noise that was coming underneath the car was from a big size pebble stuck on my slicks and was rubbing the plastic wheel liners. Finally got around to removing the wheels to investigate and this is what I see.

I don't see anything wrong with the rear axle just your diff fluid all over the place. Looks like a seal between the drive shaft and rear end blew?

Maybe just overheating/excessive temperatures during a track session?

Hopefully it isn't serious.

This. I believe a few cars have had this issue replaced under warranty. Although the fluid didn’t look like that.

Isn't your car under warranty? Or you're trying to avoid the dealership because of mods?

Differential Fluid has the same weight as brake fluid, this looks similar to motor oil. But again, the exhaust shows that the fluid was thin at one time when it was hot, but when it sat in my garage for a week became thick.

I sent photos to my mechanic and he also thinks the Rear Axle is toast since it was making a rubbing noise while I was driving around town. He thinks the CV Joint needs to be rebuilt at best. Well, we all know Stealerships replace parts and not rebuild them.

I'm not trying to skirt the dealership because I'm heavily modded and I'm afraid it be denied warranty. There has be to direct correlation with the part damage, and the mods installed to be denied warranty. Example, above normal horsepower or torque brought by a "Tune" equals a Blown Axle? Nope! So no connection between the two so I'm not afraid of warranty being denied. It's how everyone should rationalize warranty.

It's definitely the CV boot

CV Boot is just a piece of rubber. Guess you meant CV joint.

That looks more like CV Joint grease more than diff fluid.

Yep, I just had this done - 2 weeks before my warranty expired!

This is simply grease and not differential fluid. Your diff is fine.

There is thick grease inside the black CV boot that lubricates ball bearings, etc. Looks like that clamp maybe loosened and grease escaped under the boot.

You can simply reboot the CV axle and put new packing grease, but since its under warranty just throw in a new axle. Not hard to do.

Definitely an axle problem, not the differential. The CV joint boot failed (or the CV joint failed and tore the boot). That's axle grease not differential oil, plus it's coming out around the CV boot. Differential oil would come out between the diff and the axle, so further inbound.

Regardless, love the Forgelines!

I also think it's just the Rear Axle that's toast and not the Differential. Just FYI, my Differential was replaced 4 months ago and the sound of that was entirely different. That was more of a thumping noise and not like a rubbing and whinny sound like this one.

I find it strange that not a lot people know about the Forgeline brand in this BMW forum. Plenty of people will actually chose the HRE etc, etc. over it. Shown in the photo is my square 18x10 Et 27 Forgeline GTD1. Thanks!

It should. The GS1R are forged, made to order wheels. It means they can make it in 18" or 19's, accommodate BBK with custom offset to fit any car.

Thanks
