M4 cannot play music through bluetooth

Hi All,

There seems to be a problem with my F82, every other time when I start the car, I cannot play music through bluetooth. The phone(iphone 11) is paired, the music is playing(at least on the phone it seems like playing) but there is no sound. I tried to contact dealer, he suggests to switch to radio and go back to bluetooth, I tried, no luck. I also tried forget device on both ends and re-pair, also no luck.
Can someone help me with that? Thanks.

I have the same issue. I usually disconnect my phone from BT and re connect. I usually keep spotify open when I'm doing this. Let me know how it works out.

I'm going to ask a dumb question, but only because I have expereinced it before. Once paired and connected, did you turn the volume up on your iPhone (volume all the way up on the side of your iPhone)? Mine has reset before on the volume on the phone will be low or zero, so no sound comes out of the speakers.

I have also done what coleb423 notes above, if it's a connection/handshake issue.

I am gonna try that if it happens again. Not sure whether I have tried it before. Thanks!

Not all the way up but not zero for sure(in the middle somewhere). If I choose my phone to play the music, I can hear it, after I changing it back to my car, no sound at all.

Remember, the volume for playing sound out of your iPhone speaker is NOT the same volume as when you are connected to Bluetooth and playing music via Bluetooth. Your Bluetooth volume is separate from your iPhone speaker volume and can ONLY be adjusted when connected to Bluetooth and playing music. I'd check it just to be sure. Good luck.

This happens to me sometimes as well ... because I could have a few music apps opened on my phone (iTunes, spotify and soundcloud). Make sure that you close all programs (I just X out of all apps running in background) and restart the spotify app. Usually fixes the problem for me. LMK if that works if none of the above solutions work for you

Had this problem a while ago, you'll figure it out eventually, but Apple does have an issue with bimmer Bluetooth. This is what I did to solve it, worked for me. Manage Mobile devices, Apple CarPlay and press to de-select the automatic connection option.
Cheers

how about checking on your idrive software version and ios version?

I have found if you plug the phone into the USB the car takes the phone off "bluetooth streaming" and wants you to stream it via USB

Okay go to telephone, if the iphone is listed as a paired device select it. Make sure box 1 and 3 are checked (one is for telephone 1 one is for music).

Hey xxxHRxxx,
This happens to me quite often actually and after repeated attempts to reconnect/resync. I found what works for me is to do a hard reset on your iPhone(older iPhone’s procedure was hold home button and lock for 10seconds, newer iPhone’s procedure is you press volume up, than volume down, than press and hold the side lock button down for 10 seconds).
Works every time for me.

Happens to me all the time with iPhone/Pandora. The two fixes that always seem to work are:

A) select radio, then back to blue tooth

Or

B) quit Pandora and relaunch

Occasionally I will notice that:
-album art doesn't display
-forward/back arrows in the HUD don't do anything

But in both of those scenarios the music still plays. Good luck!

Every now and then this happens for me - unlocking the phone (going to home screen) makes the music start playing magically.

Thank you guys for all the proposed solutions!

A quick update: I tried 335xiMTL's method which is quit all music apps except the one I am current using(iTunes), worked 3 times out of 3 car starts, which never happen before.

I will keep an eye on this to see if it solves everything.

cheers!
