iDrive restarting randomly
I just started having issues with my iDrive system and was wondering if anyone has experienced the same. It'll just randomly restart sometimes while I'm driving. Last time it happened yesterday while I was on a call and the screen all of a sudden just went black and restarted after a few seconds.
I'll make an appointment with the dealer but was curious if anyone has experienced this and what the cause was. |

I just had this happen to me yesterday.
2018 F80. ~1400 miles. Got my break-in service done a week ago. No coding done. Google Pixel phone paired via bluetooth when I first got the car but at the time of incident my phone was not on/paired with the car. Short drive, parked car, went into a store very quickly (5 minutes). Came back out, started car and immediately knew something was different about the iDrive system screen. I couldn't remember exactly what, but I just remember thinking that it was doing something different than it normally does when I start the car. As I am driving I try to change the SAT radio station via the scroll wheel on the steering wheel as I usually do. It lets me scroll through my presets (a combo of AM/FM/SAT stations) but won't let me pick any SAT stations. I click on them and nothing happens. It lets me click any AM/FM stations though. I try selecting a SAT station via the control wheel in the center console. No luck either. Then my iDrive screen goes completely black, and then reboots. It continues to reboot on my drive every 1-2 minutes. Still can't select any SAT stations on the drive. Reached my destination, turned car off ... when I turn car back on ~30 minutes later ... all seems fine again? Has rebooted since, knock on wood. Some searching around this forum shows lots of members having similar problems. Some the issue just happened once or twice and went away. Others got a software update and the issue resolved. Some had to get a whole new head unit put in. |

I had the same issues and my idrive was swapped out and my while mine is not ID6, it seems different than the ID5 version I had. Mine started out with what appeared to be my BT audio dropping out, and removing itself from the source choices. Removing iphone, repairing BT and a sleep would make it work again. Then mine would reboot and reboot while driving. Then it did what you described. Finally only FM worked.

Old? I'm still on iPhone 6s and afraid to upgrade. It seems BMW is slow with Bluetooth updates when new phones come out.

Anyone had any resolution to this? Mine just started acting up today. Went out for a 15 min drive, restarted about 3-4 times.
