Does anyone have the design files for these if I want to machine my own? I think I read somewhere they were released to the public?

Someone mentioned the guy that originally designed the product went bunk and gave up the designs to someone else because it was too expensive to operate.

My point is to spread the word and stop people from thinking any ONE company matters. The market will always provide if theres demand. |

I was going to buy one and scan at work and release a design file or something so anyone can make their own. I don't see this costing more than $500 to make at a reputable machine shop. Surely not $1600 even with overhead. Some of these things are ridiculously priced and its not because of "low volume" its just insane margins. |

It seems to me this happens mostly on tuned automatic transmission S55s after revving into red line or doing an aggressive downshift. This issue appears to be far less likely with manual transmission owners that don't go deep in the red and know how to rev-match. I would feel safe with the 550 crank horsepower from BM3 stage 1 93 octane. Do you really need more power than that? Even stock, the car is a monster. I feel people get too excited about E85 tunes

In AU anyway I would be hard pressed to find a machine shop to mill a one off for 500. Last time I sourced a machine shop to machine a RC wing bed to do some vacuuming forming it was about 4K albeit it was a bigger item. If you were going to create your own CAD/GCODE files wouldn't you scan the oem and add what ever changes you need to that. At least you are not compounding any changes and will be the truest representation of the tooth profiling and dimensions. I do agree 1600 is a on the high side especially for international buyers like myself with shitty exchange rates. I do however think somewhere between the $800-$1000 USD mark is acceptable. 500 would be so much better though EDIT: SSR/MaxPSI offering is 1200 so not far off my high water mark. But the conversion rate for me is the killer.

Even if I were to do all this, close to no one would do it themselves. I just so happen to be in the sheet metal and fabrication industry so I wanted to do it myself out of fun. Even with an MOQ of 5 I know I can get this pricing substantially lower and still have 100% margins beating the competition. Unfortunately thats life for the our market, I 3d printed my own intake for my n55 back in the day via a protolabs order, I just like to tinker. |
