The values are already quite strong in Europe.

A European CoC (Certificate of Conformance) from BMW is only $130 - I am quite surprised more cars have not been exported. Even with VAT/duties, an $80k car here would be ~88k EUR. It's definitely a bit of a hassle for seller/buyer, but both could do pretty well on that transaction. It's certainly an avenue I will explore when it's time to move on.
Bmw doesn't issue CoC for the US market cars.
You would have to do homologation and certification, that's gonna be couple thousand euros. Plus EU likes to tax, tax, tax cars.

Even with 3k EUR in homologation and certification costs, import duty, and VAT, you would save a substantial amount of money.

The cheapest GTS in Europe is 110K EUR.

The cheapest GTS in the US is $75k USD = 61.5k EUR

Import duty to EU is 10%, VAT is 19%-22%. Shipping is 1.5k EUR. Homologation / certification is ~3.5k EUR.

Total cost = [((61.5K + 1.5K) * 1.1) * 1.20] + 3.5K = 86.66K EUR

That's a 23.33K EUR (>20%) savings. Like I said, it begins to become worth the hassle when the savings/arbitrage opportunity is that significant.

But it's not just VAT. There is a specific additional tax for cars beyond the ~20% VAT, worth ~15% even in cheap european countries like Spain

I wish these could take another year to appreciate. 12 months from now I will be on the market.

Yes, registration tax based on CO2 emissions (IEDMT). But those must be paid on any car coming from outside the peninsula/Balearic Islands on first registration, so it doesn't make sense to include it in a pricing comparison to non-Spanish EU cars.

And it is not a fee that occurs in France or Germany, as they roll the CO2/engine size/power level based fees into annual registrations.

It certainly is a hassle to do, but it is a cost savings. Even if you were to (inaccurately, IMO) factor in the Spanish first reg fees, a US GTS would still be cheaper.

Just sell the CS and get in while they're still relatively low!

Yeah... winter... 5 long quiet months... What's the point of having another one sit parked. I'll learn... eventually. Ha!

As a seller that's what I'd be thinking.

How much do you want a GTS? If it's what you really want, slightly lower 60's or upper 50's. Market has dried up and it's a one of a kind M car.
What would you offer?
I got mine for 92k with 6k miles on it and the carbon rim package

Ya, that’s tough. We don’t have a real winter to speak of here so can drive the fun cars year round. That would annoy me as well. Glws, it’s a beauty.

Maybe look into a GT3 Touring next year, the extra interaction of a manual and more road biased suspension might be what you need. With new ICE cars in several EU countries (and some US states) being banned in 9 years soon it’ll be time to buy and hold the stuff you really want to keep. Probably in the next few years many more countries and states will follow suit.

Friend linked me a GTS on Bring a Trailer. AW, 3600 miles, all the original parts included, but BaT being a finicky bitch.. licks finger and sticks in the air for a second I'm guessing $79k.

Already at $52k. We'll see. Easily mid-80s with buyers premium, I suspect.

Going to try to buoy the value as much as I can in the comments, haha.

Nice one!
Won’t really go up much until the last day but I am guessing $85,000 + auction costs.
All comparable examples for sale now are the high 80s to low 90s.

I love how the winglets were put on backward by most dealers, and there are cars still out there with them reversed.

Actually, the end plates were required to be "upside down" by the DOT due to third brake light visibility reqs. With the Euro configuration and certain wing angles, cars to the rear left or rear right cannot see the 3rd brake light.

Weird rules we have here in the states...

BaT is often seen as the benchmark. So, if you have an account on the site, and you want to see it sell for a good price, you should go over there and talk the thing up a bit!

Will be interested to see what this brings. Pretty hefty curb damage on the aftermarket wheels. But you get the originals too.

Sold for $83,500.
Not sure how much BAT gets in addition to that.
Still a good deal!
