Date Price Mileage Cond Eng/T Color Region Auction
3/10/21 $74,000 17,075 3.3 6GT/A Gray Southwest Dallas

If I had to establish a baseline for wholesale cars, I'd say 0 miles with a 5.0 rating = $90k and for every mile, knock 40 cents off the price. For every 0.1 condition points, take off $500.

Interesting. How does that translate to private party and retail?

The one that sold yesterday for $74k has a 3.3CR, so I think its safe to say the car was not in great condition. Possibly had a bad Carfax with prior body work?

Retail is generally a 10-15% markup over wholesale.

Private party usually somewhere in the middle.

So $80k wholesale = $88-92k retail and $84-86k private party.

Dealer offer on trade-in is usually a bit (3-5%) below wholesale.

You'd be surprised - it depends a lot on the person doing the reporting and which lane it runs through. If it's going through an exotics auction run, they will be much more particular and a 3.3 might be a 4.0-4.2 elsewhere.

3.3 is above average, but there are a lot of things that could be bringing it down. Impossible to say for sure without the report. I'll set a reminder on my Manheim so I can pull this data prior to auction time.

Carfax is clean https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...4S9C5XGK579044

It has CCBs swapped for M2C rotors, black wheels, and extended wing risers. It was previously listed in Dallas at a dealership for $80k about 2 weeks ago. See post below from page 13:

Ya drives nice but I’d be too scared to buy any mclaren product out of warranty. My buddy had a 12C in period and blew the motor while sitting in traffic. They flew him in a new motor and was all covered but imagine now. I know another guy with a 720 who also had an engine change. Caveat emptor.

1. The vacuum effect. The new M4 will have a CS/GTS/GT4 or other "track" versions that will be $145k or so. That will create a vacuum for the previous halo car.
2. All of the totaled or exported GTS will reduce the available population available for sale.
3. We may see the final rotation out investor owners out of the car in the next 12 months after waiting 5 years for that amazing payoff. They will take the haircut and get out.
4. True BMW collectors will jump in to the market; They already have an M1, a 2002 Turbo, a E30 M3, a 328, etc and a M4 GTS has a spot in that collection.

I have lived this curve before with an e36 LTW. Deja Vu.
Interesting, would be nice to see that play out. Agree with some of that for sure.

Thanks for the hard data, this is interesting. I need to drive my car more if they’re holding value this well at higher mileage.

That seems exceedingly high for an auction result with 9k miles. Awesome.

That auction softens the blow from me just dropping $90k on mine with 4400 miles.

Should've jumped on one last year, but better late than never. *♂️

Don't think twice about it. Find a back road and let it rip. It's worth every bit of $90k.

Still a good purchase price for such low mileage. Nothing with low miles under 90K right now and 3 out of 8 for sale over 100K.
It is also unlikely to depreciate from now on.
Time to drive it the way it was intended... Enjoy!

not to jinx it but seems like i might've bought my 3k mile car at the lowest point of the GTS market. maybe got lucky, but i dont buy cars as investments so will drive as much as i can.

Enjoy. I bought a 2008 Ducati 1098R new, took it straight to the track, and never even tagged it. I've always had a passion for things with an internal combustion engine. This isn't so much an investment as it is a hobby with less depreciation.

ya, will be interesting to see what happens. my guess is the new M4 wont dampen enthusiasm for the GTS. when i bought mine in October last year everything seemed cheap though so could've been just an overall low in the sports car market.

No, mine's coming from a consignment dealer in New York. I'd hoped to road-trip and grab it tomorrow, but they won't have the title from the owner until next week.
