Exhaust recomendation
Hey everyone its been a minute since ive been on here..
Purchased my 16 M4 back in September. Car came with some mods and exhaust was one of them. Setup; Evolution racewerks catless downpipes, fabspeed valvetronic full exhaust. Im looking to get rid of the godawful drone, stench and loudness. What can i do to at least minimize all of this? Im planning on running e85 from time to time with jordans custom tune if this makes a difference. Thanks in advance. |

Put stock cats back on. They are not that restrictive, Cary can work with them.
You also get to flash to stock annually to pass PA inspection. BM3 won't pass you, need the stock tune. I tried...

I have stock downpipes, AA equal length mid, and Dinan muffler. Zero drone after shutting off cold start with BM3. Not loud with the resonated mid. Can be louder with non-resonated mid. No rasp. No smell.

When I ran my ER sport cats I still got some stink FWIW. If you're up in NE Philly the Boulevard Wawa has good E, so you could fix the stink that way. I like the moonshine smell coming out of my tailpipe.

If you wish on keeping the catless downpipes, either put the stock midpipe back or get the Active Autowerke Equal length resonated midpipes

one thing to consider is delivery time. if you want to wait a year to get your exhaust then get the AA EL, otherwise get something else.

Ive tried multiple exhaust setups on my car and drove a bunch. Here is my takeaway (personal opinion only):
1. Stock downpipes, single AA midpipe and Akra (or dinan) muffler. Perfect sound and zero drone. Also no annoying farts. 2. EQual Length midpipe: annoyingly raspy and high-pitched. Some love it, I do not. 3. Catless downpipes will drone. No matter what. |

Ssr catless Downpipes, aa equal length with custom resonators and awe switchpath axleback. Pretty sure this is one of the best sounding exhausts ever to be heard on the f80 |

Stench: need cats, no way around this
Drone: I would suggest trying the stock muffler w/ a valve controller. If you force the valves open it’s effectively a straight pipe and will sound pretty much like every other valved/straight thru muffler design and you’ll get the full thunder whenever you’re in the mood for it. With the valves in OE mode, they’ll be closed while cruising in sport/sport+ and open when you dig into the pedal. The stock muffler is really incredible at eliminating drone. If you still have it then it’s worth a shot cause it’s free. As for UEL vs EL, just decide fundamentally what sound you like better (traditional I6 or stock M4) . Either option can sound like a tinny/raspy mess if not paired correctly. I would say stock DPs, Single or Equal Mid, and stock muffler w/ valve controller have resulted in the best sounding exhaust setups. No need to spend money anything else aside from a midpipe and valve controller if you’re only looking for sound IMO.

It sounds awesome. I love it. I have heard other cars with AA EL that sounded raspy as shit. Probably the ones with catless downpipes and no resonators. I don't think anything sounds good with a straight pipe. Certainly not anything with an S55. The single mid kills all of the rasp and makes the tone a little deeper, but that's about it in my opinion. Still makes the same shit sound. |

When i bought my F80, it was used, and already had the AWE Switchpath (resonated exhaust) - it is actually one of the reasons I bought this car.
I absolutely love how the exhaust sounds, valves closed and valves open. With the catless downpipes, this thing can get ROWDY, also

Questions: - did you use the Dinan muffler only or the x-pipe as well? - how difficult was the installation? Clearly, having an AA EL changes the 'stock' mating points, so any aftermarket axleback would be a challenge - any idea if I could use the M4 Dinan axleback in my M2C? Dinan has totally different exhausts for the M3/M4 compared to the M2C. Any input is appreciated, AA EL - Dinan axleback combos are very rare, especially for the M2C platform. IMO, this setup is the best, but I certainly don't wish to spend a fortune on custom piping just to make this work. Thanks for the input/help!
