  • Cathedral VW in Palm Springs has a 2017 Cayman S in white with a black interior, 14-way seats and a good collection of daily driver options (e.g., Premium Package with bi-xenon PDLS+ lights, two-zone auto climate control, heated seats, dimming mirrors; power folding mirrors; Bose, Navigation, etc.). 28k miles. Warranty expired in January 2021. It's listed for $60,889 ($976/mo.) and they are serious about not negotiating. It would cost me $600 to fly down to Palm Springs and drive the car home. https://www.vwofpalmsprings.com/inve...ab2a87hs285875
  • Porsche Bethesda has a CPO 2018 718 Cayman GTS in Carrara White with a black interior, 18-way seats and a great collection of daily driver options (e.g., Premium Plus which adds ambient lighting and keyless entry to the Premium Package) for $79,998 ($1282/mo.). 26k miles and CPO warranty through March 2024. I offered $70K but haven't heard back. It would cost me $2500 to get the car shipped cross-country. https://www.porschebethesda.com/cert...f8d61f807a.htm
  • A private seller has listed a 2019 718 Cayman GTS in white with GTS alcantara interior (black with red stitching) and "race car spec": full carbon bucket seats and minimal options. 2K miles and plenty of factory warranty left. They're asking $85,000 ($1362/mo.); I've offered $80,000, assuming my 40" waistband can fit in the seats. Waiting to hear back. I could go pick this up on my lunch break - it's a local listing. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/cto...349970579.html

All good options. If everyone is firm on their price I would find the $20K-$25K cost delta between the S and GTS hard to justify. I should know more tomorrow and will report back.

I'm currently registered to run my X5 50i M Sport at the BMW HPDE at Thunderhill in late August. My goal is to take a new-to-me sports car instead.
Dont take this the wrong way but are there not any 718s out there painted an actual color?

Apparently Porsche makes so much money from Cayennes they are able to give back customers some cool features like carbon fiber belly cover. Good to see them put more effort in unseen places to differentiate from the Audi platform.

Friend of mine ordered a G82 2 days ago from a dealer in South FL. He got $4k off and $500 loyalty. He already got a production number this morning.

Crazy how different things are on the East and West coasts.

Yeah I got an allocation at my local but @MSRP. I have no interest in paying MSRP so that combined with my indifference on the car itself I passed on it.

Would You Rather: Failed Supercar Edition at the local BMW Dealer

Still so weird seeing so many spaces empty on these lots, even with construction and half the lot taken up by trailers there's spaces. That being said the BMW lots are a bit better than MB and Audi at the moment. Its mostly 3ers, but there are some SUV's available, although likely not for long. I have a local Subaru/VW (combined) dealer which is known for having the worst lot. Everything's on a diagonal, up a hillside, rows after rows of cars back to back (no spacing), just a constant clusterf***, and this is the first time the lot is actually easy to navigate and go through without it feeling like a maze

Also, obligatory G8X pic

Not surprised for AR, sadly underappreciated, and the 2.0T models are actually reliable despite common belief. That being said I am glad that Stellantis is giving them a chance. Any Stelvio's on the lot?

Yes! There were probably 10 Stelvio's on the lot, maybe more.

This gen was pretty close driving dynamics wise anyway. I wonder how long they'll last in the US. I can't imagine they've made much money but I also haven't seen any data. The main reason I didn't buy a Giulia QV was reliability issues and if they'd be around to help fix said issues. That and no manual option really bummed a lot if us out.

No manual transmission, reliability concerns and the resulting above-average depreciation are what have kept me away from Alfa Romero. I actually would have considered a used Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio as an alternative to the new M3 if it was available with a manual.

ALL the used ones are going for more than the price of a new car, look at this one good grief. Is the car shortage getting WORSE?

Jeece I'd swing by Carmax to see what they'd offer me (Car is totally stock with 800 miles on it so right up their alley) but I'd get whipsawed on any car I replaced it with. They actually had a G80 with 2k miles on it for sale over the weekend on their site for over MSRP, but it was gone within 24 hours. Bizarre times continue!
It is all vehicles.

If you are serious about selling do it soon if you are leasing. Brands are stopping third party buyouts, rumor is BMW will soon follow. I know GM, Nissan/Infiniti, Volvo have halted third party buyouts. More to follow. People were leasing for a couple months and pocketing $5k+ equity...rinse and repeat. Brands are catching on and they want their inventory back on their own lots.

There is an on-going thread on rennlist about the 4-cylinder overheating while tracking. Just a heads up. Suncoast project 718 is still dealing with heatsoak after a two year long thread addressing it.

Yeah, I've read up on that. It seems like the 718 S are more susceptible but you can add a third radiator to bring down the temps. The 718 GTS is pretty stable unless you tune it, then you may want to make some cooling modifications there as well.

It's definitely a risk. If I encountered limp mode at autocross or non-competitive HPDE events I would be very disappointed and would likely sell the car.

Suncoast has been chasing limp mode issues for 3 years on their project car. Actually installing GTS parts at some point(GTS third radiator, vented undertray, etc), trying to find anything to fix it.

Their lastest post:
"After a new set of Cup's and a really fresh alignment we were back on track at Sebring for a blistering hot Saturday DE with Suncoast PCA. As of June 2021 we still have NOT solved the limp mode issues. On the first run Saturday morning we lost boost twice before the tires were fully up to temperature. Lap 4 and Lap 6 of a 25-minute session. The second two sessions were perfect with no problems whatsoever. The fourth and final run of the day had one more loss of power but the car was running strong throughout the day. Steady 2:25's with lots of fast cars in the Black/Pink combined groups. We ran with the rear underbody panel completely off the car in hopes that we could finally find the solution to this whole fiasco. No dice....

We do have a 718 GTS turbocharger sitting here waiting to go in the car. This would be the final straw in a 3 year headache. If a completely new and updated turbo doesn't fix the limp mode issues on track we are pretty much waiving the white flag. Stay tuned for details."

The QV is a fantastic effort, especially given that it's a 2016 release. They had a chance to make immediate and significant inroads, but they missed their window (2016-2019). To combat their reputation for reliability, I think they should've given prospective customers the ultimate peace of mind by stepping up with an overly generous warranty/maintenance contract and a sky-high level of service (premium loaners, long distance pickups/dropoffs, etc). They also needed to step up their marketing, focusing on getting as many people test driving these cars as possible. Maybe deploy a trade-in marketing campaign where people are incentivized to trade in their Audi, BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes, while incorporating some storytelling/emotion by playing up their challenger status?

As an anecdote, the QV hit my own radar for the first time this year, and that's a fail as I'm of their ideal customer archetype.

Ultimately, they need to come back with an updated and more complete product.

It's not too late for them to start doing these kinds of things and more.
