Front License Plate

For those of you who live in a front plate required state like me (NY), how are you running your front plate (and where on the front bumper)? I'm using a carbonio mount but trying to explore other ideas lol

in NJ. I have a toe-hook mount. I'm kind of over it though. Not loving the way it looks. The carbonio option looks decent.

yo!

Cali here. I don't run one. I take the fine, as these cars are too good looking to mount a plate on the front IMHO.

Yes, I am dumb. I know. My wife is sure to remind me about this all the time...

I have this and it works really well. Very sturdy (going on 35,000 miles with it) and is as attractive as a front license plate mount can be. Very simple to remove for pictures.

This exactly for me too. For the amount of other drivers without one I’ll play the odds.

I have the Sto and Sho but never attach the plate unless I need to street park. The meter maids will ticket.

I've never had an issue with police. You might be drawing attention though if you have a tint, dropped ride hieght, obnoxious exhaust, etc.

I look and drive like a geezer on public roads.

Colorado here - I don't run a front plate and haven't since I moved here 12 years ago

I have had 2 cops mention it when I am getting a speeding ticket/warning - but neither gave me a ticket for it

while parking in Denver - I always pull in and park up against the wall - they will give you a ticket in the parking garages if you back in (without a front plate)

Rhode Island here, had 2 BMWs, never ran front plate and never had an issue.

When I bought my Hyundai Elantra I got pulled over within 2 months. I guess cheap brand gets discriminated here.

Before I go in for inspection, I hang it on the zip ties, and take it right off after the inspection.

Meanwhile I see sus temporary paper plates everywhere. And, then there's plates with tampered letters or obstructions to avoid tolls and cameras. Argh. Chaos. (Deep breath).

I'm in NJ and ever since I got my first F80 in 2016 I've never run the front plate and have never had an issue. Once I was even stopped for something else and the LEO didn't even mention the front plate. Maybe just lucky.

I have been stopped four times under the assumption I had no front plate each time I asked the officer to walk around front and observe the front plate legally mounted. Each time he came back and apologized . In Texas some officers will come up behind assuming that since you are driving a sporty car you don’t put the front plate on. It’s up to a $200 fine here. On the M4 I just use the factory mount and not worry . For Texas owners twice just east Of Dallas on the interstate by DPS troopers and twice east of San Antonio by local officers . All were very polite. I just figure it’s the law so why test it

Oregon here - this is the way. I've never had an issue here except with the meter maids.

I'm in N.J. I never installed the front license plate on my 2016 M4 daily driver( for 7 years and 3 months). I have never been stopped and never been ticketed at a parking meter. Just lucky, I guess.

I like how the OP asks for front plate mounting solutions and more than half the responses are like, "I never use a front plate..."

OP, I've done a lot of research on what is the best solution and I came to this conclusion. The best solution is the one that is the easiest to mount/dismount.

Strong magnets behind the bumper is probably the easiest, but for me, I chose the Sto N Sho. It only takes 2 seconds of your life to mount or dismount every time. I keep the plate in the car and only use it if I have to park or drive through a high risk area.

I don’t have a front plate on my F82 but I’m thinking of trying a front plate vinyl wrap on my new X3. I’m not a fan of the off center tow hook look.

I don't run front license plates, even though I'm in Cali. But I've seen bunch of decals and vinyl license plates on front of cars these days. If you don't want to smoke holes into your bumper then this is a pretty neat solution. As long as the plate number matches the rears, I don't see how this would violate any state regulations or laws. Just my 2 cents.

It’s a pilot program in CA for a limited amount of applicants. It’s not legal for everyone. The shop(s) licensed to legally create the vinyl plates adhere to very strict set of guidelines.

So no, you will not be able to just go to a sign shop and have a vinyl sticker made of your license plate. In fact, there are reports that cops are trying to ticket people who are part of the pilot program and have the vinyl plates legally. Cops don’t always keep up with every single minute change in the law at all times.

Just because you see people do it, doesn’t make it legally sanctioned.

IMO, the black plates are the best looking plates if you’re running both or just the rear. And center mounted. Alll these toe hook mounts, vinyl, digital versions just draw more attention to the front. Just my opinion.

California, just avoid parking meters, $10 fixing tickets or just write $121 and sent it to them. I took mine off completely, a lot of Tesla owners don’t even use front license plate

Tow hook if your dealer didn't drill the bumper like mine did. Supposedly you can get fillers that match the paint and don't look too obvious so I might do that and go with the tow hook license plate mount. Definitely the way to go, better air flow, looks sportier, have a tow hook already ready to go invade of emergency
