lol I always shit the bed lanuching my tuned 6mt at stoplights. Always end up going to heavy before 4.5k if that works, that the bang into second will lose traction...
I lose to 328s on the daily. So is the 328 faster? Or I just can't stop flooring it |

My RS3 will destroy the new G20 M340i 0-60 and I choose my F80 all day long over the Audi. Straight line acceleration gets boring after a while.

Yup, like many are saying, for just straight line acceleration it's getting very tight, everything seems to be easily getting under 5 seconds, which is amazing...what it comes down to for enthusiasts is feel and stuff that you just can't easily calculate...so buy what you enjoy! My 6MT might make me a heck of a lot slower, but I'm having way more fun, so I don't care!

I remember when the e90 335i came out in 2007 and it was as fast as an e46 m3 comp pack in a straight line and in other performance testing. Blew people's minds.
It's normal progress in terms of absolute performance metrics. Hell, look at the performance of a ~4400 pound m5 nowadays - including on a track. Unreal. |

Sport package & 6mt models always had extra oil coolers and did fine. But yes, non-sport package and/or AT models had more issues. Plus fuel pump issues. It wasn't a clean launch; then again, it wasn't the track model either.
I'm not as concerned about the g20 b58 have such significant issues. BMW has a pretty damn impressive history now of twin turbo engines with good reliability - did take them a few years to get there.

You said it right there "not a track model". Track models are the "core" M models not "m performance" or "m sport" I too would definitely take an older M than a newer non M, knowing what I know now (that the M cars are more than just straight line acceleration potential). Eg, get e36m instead of e90 328 and e86m instead of e89 z4 35i |

^ this, or Toyota Siennas...dump the clutch, spin the tires, and watch the minivan take off. He goes home, tells the mrs how the van crushed a M3. I swear I must get more soccer dads laid in my town than anywhere.

where's the stats that shows that the G20 M340i is faster than F80???
I see the article says it "should" do 4.2? Isnt that slower than an F80? I know my CS is quoted at mid 3s, regular M3 is about 4? I doubt this will trap above 110mph. Thats like 10mph slower. Newer model, slower than current M. What are we even talking about here again?

Enough said. My wife has a 2013 335i sedan. It is a beautiful car, FAST, we are the first owner, etc... However, an M car is an M car! I didn't buy my M4 because of 0-60 results. We use the M4 pretty much for everything. She honestly drives the 335i just to go to work. |

My sister has 42xi white , red seats m sport. same as my f80 so sometimes i forget what i am in.
feels so fuckin quick leaving my neighboorhood. riding through town at 40mph. Now a soon as an on ramp comes for a highway... i almost get into accidents because I assume I have the beast of the f80 under the cage to merge...open roads you really feel the difference of power. Another great way to have fun in the f80 is weaving thru traffic when its slightly backed up. in 2nd and 3rd gear, you literally leapfrog in and out of holes. something the 340i just dont go the low end grunt for. but motortrends video of the v12 vantage said it all. its all a numbers game now. I hate when people ask me how quick it is 0-60. If I wanna race? My mustang has 450.....Cool, dont care I aint a street racer. Its all about the feel. My buddy got a miata same day I got the f80. and damn that miata puts just the same smile on my face. Shit all I want is a 2011ish Vantage v12 with a standard box. Thatll about do me |

But, but it's not an M car bro...
If the point is just fast with a slush box in a straight line with no soul, I don't need the next gen 3 series, just get a used v8 mustang and save $40k. The 550M Sport x-Drive was faster than the las gen M5. But which car makes you feel like a super hero and and commands respect....The M freaking 5. That's the one I'd buy between the two. |

So you own an F80; would you get the G20 M340i xDrive
Contentious question.... But how may of you F80 owners would consider the G20 M340i as a replacement car when it is launched?
Basically would you trade in your F80 M3 for a G20 M340i xDrive ? |

I think you're missing a lot of info for people to give an intelligent answer. How are your finances? Have kids to carry around and how old? How many days do you drive it, how far, how are your roads? Do you do any track events or just go to work and get groceries? And so on.

Did you read the article below? Take at look at the quote from an engineer where they "tune" the steering to account for people driving with one hand at 12 o clock. That's really not the car I want, where that kind of "lowest common denominator" driving is accounted for. As this point ever go back to BMW it will be into an old M car setup for club racing, or an SUV where I won't have much expectation of sport driving https://www.autoblog.com/2018/08/15/2019-bmw-330i-prototype-first-drive-review/ Quote:

Absolutely not. It's a downgrade in drivetrain, in looks, in handling in rareness, in number of drivewheels. Just no.

You have to know that any true M car is built differently from the ground up. The chassis is completely different from a basic 3er. That is something BMW has always done from the E30 all the way to the current F80. They may look similar, but from the ground up the cars are completely different in drive and feel.
There is no way a M340i will feel anything like a G80 M3 when it comes out. There is no way it will replace my M3 and I don't see it will be. A BMW M is a special car, every generation has been unique. Those people who just care for 0 - 60 numbers aren't real car lovers. That is basically like saying the Benz C43 is a real AMG car. It isn't. G20 M340i will be a good car, but it isn't going to be a M, it wasn't designed to be a real M.
