Heading to 1/4 mi track Friday what should I know?
I've got launch control down (set to M2 button)... any suggestions for warming up tires? Bone stock 2020 f83. Getting base 1/4 numbers.
It's super easy in my x3m, avoid waterbox and go lol pic for the fun of it |

On "hard" tires (street tires) just go way around the water box straight to the dig. No heat up. Even with track tires you'd do the same. Just don't be first in line, so the people in front of you can heat up the prep with their burnout. Try to line up right over top of their groove so you stick some.
Only slicks and DRs need heat to activate the compound…for dragstrip. Even with track tires I've had better drag time slips launching dry.

Try both and compare.
Without a line lock to burn out you need to spin the tires in the water box, and then foot brake as you're spinning them to slowly roll forward off the wet.

Lots of good info so far.
If you're able to, get up close and watch other people launch ahead of time. Pay particular attention to staging at the light tree and get familiar with the cues. If you've never done it before it happens quick. You'll want to be 100% ready to go once your turn is getting close (helmet secure, windows up, AC off, if the track has a public radio channel tune in on your stereo if you want). Good call on having LC settings preset to M2. It takes practice to get the launch timing just right. Also, at the end of the run watch ahead of time which direction cars are exiting. I've seen a few bloopers because people didn't know which way to go Have fun and keep the rubber side down! |
