Sold my f80 to build a 991.2
I really liked my time with BMW i loved the f80 platform. About two years ago i parted out my f80 build and sold the car i knew i could get what i paid for the car two years prior selling back to carmax plus all the money from the aftermarket parts. This was still peak Covid pricing i knew the market was high on both sides of selling and buying. I also knew it wouldn’t last forever. I shopped for 911T’S and GTS but there wasn’t a lot of inventory at the time and Porsche was still backlogged for 992. I found a gate grey 991 S down in socal. I picked it up CPO from Porsche. I will say there are a few downsides to moving to 911 the owners are kinda lame they don’t track there’s cars they don’t like modding and everything is about spec. My 991 is an enthusiast spec it almost doesn’t even matter if you plan on modding the car. My 991 came with rear axle steering, sport Chrono sport pasm and 18 ways, PTV-LSD. I kinda wanted to keep it stock for a bit but i couldn’t help my self.

I took the car to one more level and swapped all the arms for adjustable arms and i got a set of BBS E88’s. The car is on JRZ rs2 coilovers with elephant racing arms and bushings. I did GTS/sport design aero front and rear. Along with the aero coding. It has a full Sharkwerks exhaust along with 200 cell soul cats.

Thanks for sharing! 911 is the only answer after an F80.

There's a joke that every BMW owner's dream car is a 911. Porsche is really the only brand that still caters to driving enthusiasts these days. |

Because it is the next aspirational car in the food chain when you are looking to upgrade. Many started with something like a Honda/VW. Then with a bit larger budget you can move to something like a 340i. Again moving up the ranks you increase your budget and now start getting into M cars. After that, Porsche is the next common step for when you can spend more $ on a performance vehicle.

Here’s my F80, but F8X to 991.2 I’d say is nice upgrade in almost measurable way. I have pretty extensive track experience with both. I do think Porsche has went up market on 911 know matter what version of the car it will be harder to get. BMW’s approach now is youth and appealing to younger demographic. Porsche now comes with an ADM no matter what 911 your buying. I would have bought another bmw but i don’t agree with the design language.

I still have both and enjoy driving the M3 and mostly looking at it. Mine is also Yas Marina.
991.2 is several steps up in handling capability, steering feel, chassis control etc. You sit a lot lower in the car and center of gravity is much lower. One is born as a sports car, the other one is born as a pedestrian sedan that engineers made into a sporty car. M3 is much cheaper to run though from a maintenance standpoint. If you thought M tax is bad, just wait to see the Porsche tax / labor rates. |

I inherited one of the 57 original wide body 993 GT2’s and used it as a daily driver for a while, did approx 80,000 miles in it driving (very aggressively) around the mountains and lochs of Scotland and the hills and lakes of Northern England.
Doubt I will ever get another Porsche, as I consider the brand “completed” from a driver’s perspective. It was a great car, I drove the living daylights out of it, as the car wanted, then once cured of grief, I sold it. It had enormous split rims that leaked constantly and the battery would only last 6 months. But more grip than God and 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds, pure insanity for a car built 25 years ago. I believe it’s in New Zealand now. |

Why not just join a Porsche forum? It’s obviously an open forum here and you’re clearly free to post whatever you want, but I’m genuinely curious to know why not start this thread at Rennlist. Frankly, you could literally copy/paste and it’d fit perfectly lol.
Just as a caveat, my question/comment isn’t intended as sarcasm, to berate, or to offend - just wondering and figured it couldn’t hurt to ask. |

And yeah, rennlist can be a bit of a downer when it comes to mods, though I got the impression there were many more people modding and working on their 991s than 992s. It can get a bit annoying to read about people freaking out when you install an ECU tune or spacers or install a lip spoiler on a Porsche... as if the car is going to all of a sudden turn into an aerodynamic wreck an become ariborne once you hit 80 mph or something. But there are also many enthusiasts who mod the heck out of their cars, though not nearly as many as here in the BMW forums. BTW, great choice in rims on both cars! I recently bought some custom polished BBS FI-Rs for my Porsche but I'm really thinking about getting some mesh rims - either some E88s or HRE 300 classics. Here's mine. Keep sharing your mods here and in Rennlist! |
