Scammed On Tires

Hello all,

I bought tires on Bimmerpost yesterday, Michelin PS4S's for $550 from a user by the name of grx92. I paid him through Venmo and I never heard from him again. Anyone know how if its possible to get my money back through Venmo, or has someone else been in the same situation and figured out how to put an end to this headache?

Thank you!

Venmo is meant for friends and family or people you know. I don't think you will be able to get your money back. Let's hope he mans up and sends you the tires

I saw someone say they got their money back from Venmo one time because they put it on their credit card and they reported it to Venmo before the money cleared and they were able to stop it

Call Venmo, they were able to help someone here recently.

I got screwed $20 using Venmo. I contacted Venmo and they basically said you are out of luck and there is nothing they can do.

We don't use Venmo, Zelle or PP Friends and Family...period. Anyone who insists is scamming.

It's ONLY regular protected PayPal, or cash in hand after my inspection. I even do PP for face to face transactions but I eat the fee.

BONUS BOINK:
If you pay by PayPal Friends and Family, and you have a credit card connected to pay with, you pay PayPal a fee plus your bank sees it as a Cash Advance and charges you their fee. Screwed twice!

Buying used tires is a gamble all it’s own. Even brand new tires have defects all the time…
Sorry to hear you got scammed though.

Why would anyone trust someone who has one post and selected the one payment method that is 99% non refundable is beyond me.

Either way I hope you get your money back OP.

This and also tires that don’t have many miles but are old can be just as bad.

People there's a fuck ton of scammers on here please just find something local, if you're going to buy something that someone is gonna ship use your head, sending $500 to someone who has posted once is ludicrous. Especially through venmo.

Venmo and PP FF shouldn't be to blame here. It is as legitimate form of payment as cash and can be incredibly convenient for both the buyer and seller. Here's the thing though -- IT SHOULD BE TREATED AS CASH! You wouldn't just send a complete stranger cash and hope they send you the product.

Me personally, I only take Venmo or Paypal Friends/Family on all the items I put on sale. But I only meet people in person and take my Venmo payment after the item as been physically inspected and given to them. For this form of transaction, it has been incredibly convenient for both me and the buyer during Covid. I've sold many tires this way and other big ticket items this way as well.

I've only sold a few items out of state but still used Venmo. Granted my reputation here helped the buyer feel comfortable about payment. But even before selling to them, I turned them down. I only agreed to sell to them when they insisted.

OP, I hope you get your money back. Even though I only use Venmo or PP FF for my own For Sale items, I would never pay some else in the same way unless I was face to face with them; or they're friends that I have done other transactions with. Good luck.

You can get your money back. Contact your bank and open a case. Takes awhile but they can help you resolve it.

I paid a vendor for service at one of my businesses, about 4K. He provided an old phone number and it went to the wrong person. The banks sorted it out.

I listened to a pos cast about this recently weirdly enough. Venmo has really shitty customer service supposedly.

The only way to get your money back is to call your bank that the Venmo account is linked to and tell them to cancel the transaction.

Venmo would have to staff an entire operation to deal with idiots who mistyped and payed the wrong person. It's just not part of their business model to provide any type of customer support.

I don't want to de rail the point of this thread. BUT I would argue that they can just have a general statement of "we can't do anything if you paid the wrong person" while still offering customer service or some sort of process for buyer protection like PayPal does. That being said I know Venmo is more for family and friends and not business transactions. I'm just trying to help OP out.

Not to mention the app has a built in request/receive model. I don't know why people don't use this. Request the funds so the right person sees the notification, and they cannot screw up sending money to the wrong person.
