I was reading along this post and want to offer my advice on this. You guys don't even have to climb under the car to do this mod.leave the connectors in place (no worries of corrosion or water damage) .just pull trunk liner up and pull fuses 146 and 147 when valve is open! that simple!

and while you're in there, adjust the trunk-open springs if yours has gotten lazy... (search for more info in another thread but wanted to plug another free mod in the same ****!!)

good stuff man!

I just did this yesterday and confirmed that it works!! 10x simpler and no unplugging and taping the connectors

Here is a video of my F80 on track with MPE and exrernal Olympus mic with valves unplugged.

Finally had a chance to track my F80 for the first time and as expected, it definitely blew away my expectations.

Unfortunately the data is not perfectly synced in my video but you get the idea:

Nice video!

Hows the Dinan tune and intake? I'm considering getting it. No downpipes installed?

My homelink worked fine after unplugging both 146 and 147. Still curious how you guys know its these fuses.

Ok. Cool, i'll give it a try then! I had read somewhere that 146 controlled the homelink! So didn't want to lose that as I need to get in the gate! Thanks!

Tried the fuse method and it worked great.

I do a lot of long distance driving and the open flaps are going to be too tiresome all the time, so the fuses are back for now. But it was cool to try it out though.

Drones like crazy @ 2k. I'll leave mine open for an initial hard pull on the highway then put it back on stock setting or close them. Then open them back up for any tunnel action

I have a manual so it doesn't drone too much, but it's still too loud overall for everyday use. I'm now convinced that I need to get a flap controller!

Thank you for that tip.

I have been too lazy to crawl under the car to unplug the valves just to try it out. But removing the fuses is easy enough.

I have always been curious to how it would sound with the valves always open, so I tried it out today. When driving sedately, I was always bothered me that the valves close as soon as I shifted into 3rd gear. Driving (stop and go) around with the valves open, the sound is much better. The throttle blip downshifts are much crisper and can now be properly heard. However, I do find the car much too boomy for steady speed cruising.

Now that I tried the valves open, I really question BMW's logic for the valve control. It seems to me that closing the valves in 3rd gear is way too early. I would rather have he valves close with 5th gear and up to reduce cruising drone, but keep them open for gears 1 through 4.

Like I said before: to me MPE + unplugged valves are like a giraffe. Its a nice sight to enjoy at the zoo, but you just don’t keep one at home.
Valve controller is the only way to go.

Sorry for the late reply.

Dinan tune and intake are incredible. Can't really hear the intake with the MPE and valves open on track but the tune really makes a difference with the midrange torque. Definitely enjoying it.

No downpipes for now.
