I can’t believe I just watched a tech video on F****** seats -_-

Also, I’m still incredibly perplexed by the concept of carbon buckets in a car this heavy. This video has now clarified that they aren’t true buckets, just a lighter electric seat with carbon seat backs... very boy racer

Probably thanks to my various seat sagas, I'm a fan of the carbon buckets. Headrest removal is well thought out. Need that feature to make room for hans as well.

if there are potential anti-sub connection points under the seat, the apparent nut shot could act as a sort of belt separator or guide. Probably not necessary, but maybe in their thinking.

It's literally the old competition seats but with a nut cracker and includes the cosmetic CF. 5kg lighter than what? Lighter than the current M Sport seat which probably heavier than the old Comp seats from the F8X? I hate false comparisons that try to spin a rosier picture of fake improvements.

If this car came out today (with some updated interior tech), I don't think it would look outdated. IMHO, it's still one of the better looking cars on the market. I can't say the same about the G80.

Maybe I'm getting old, but this is like catering to the lowest common denominator. There is a whole generation of sheep who are either too technically ignorant or lazy to turn a phone sideways when filming or taking a picture that it's become standard to literally CHOP THE SIDES OFF of all relevant media. Many apps have taken away the ability to use landscape mode because of the selfie zombies.

This is just one indication of many that BMW are trying to reach a new superficial audience that cares more about social media presence than the actual driving experience. God damnit, just slap giant LED ///M badges on a Hellcat and call it a day because all these people car about is 0-60 times and badge whoring. /rant




PS, why can't they put the cutouts for the standard seat? It's sad that the older E92 seats can accept racing harnesses, but not ours of the G80 standard seats.

The F8X still looks great bc it's got that in motion look to it. It's face is menacing to a certain degree, but not angry. It screams ///M while sitting still from all angles.

I like the headrest removal as well. Some more room for the helmet is appreciated, although I can't tell in the video if the helmet will be resting on hard plastic or soft material. I'd hate for my helmet to get scratched up in the back.

Hard to reconcile these censorship actions with BMW's "there's no such thing as bad publicity" design theme.

Why is the forum not willing to allow the same process with the G8X? If the car is actually beautiful and kicks ass, then we'll all be fringe soon enough.

I thought the same. Why go to all of that trouble and still retain the heavy electric motors? Make it a true manually adjusted seat and axe another couple kilos.

Something else to consider is that the pretty carbon on the back of the seats will get scratched really easily. I put all kinds of stuff (including my race wheels & tires) in the rear seats of my car and on the rear floor, and it bumps against the seats. If I had carbon-backed seats they'd be ruined.

It's not terribly technical, is it? Besides mentioning the weight savings (which has already been addressed in the first video), there was nothing ground-breaking here. Oh, they did say the new seats have cooling as an option, which I recall a lot of people wishing for with their F8Xs.

Yeah I still miss my F80 for the looks. It was just a near perfect looking car. M4 was okay too but the F80 is just awesome looking.

Hahaha oh man, if that's why then this wasn't the way to do it. I was already all in with BMW i. All they had to do was release the i4/i5 that looked like an i8 sedan and I'd have that instead of the lame Model 3 Performance. Its so hard for me to like my Tesla but its the only EV car that makes sense at all for our needs. Nobody wanted these giganto grilles. What was wrong with the i3 and i8 style grilles? They were very handsome and sleek. Even their headlights were their own defined style that was very BMW-esque but looked more modern.

Are you saying they thought this iX design looked better than this cancelled sedan? Keep in mind BMW had already had patents showing this was going to be the i4/i5 but cancelled it at the last minute

The CF seats look cool and one of the exciting things about the G8x especially since they are lighter. I also really like that they have multi-color accents.

When i saw the video- i was really surprised that they basically were fully power adjustable and had memory feature?! I appreciate the adjustments as the Porsche GT Bucket Seats are too hardcore for most M3/4 owners. I wish it was just manual rather than power to save further weight.
