Necessary Modifications for long term use
I recently purchased a 2016 M4 with 90K miles, I drive it like crazy and have had little to no issues. I wanted to get a list of mods and/or tips to keep this baby running long term.

Yo!
I am the type of person who likes to start with fresh everything so I can then calculate the maintennace schedule going forward. My car just turned 95k, so I am right there mileage wise. Here is a list of what I would do right away (unless it was done before you bought it). Spark plugs oil/filter air filters (remove the charcoal filter for better flow, more noise) rear diff fluid rear diff bushing(I got a plate with an additional bushing) @ 100k mi I plan to get the DCT serviced I just had the valve cover gasket replaced as it was leaking and getting worse. They tend to go at 60k. I got lucky. Mods Added charge pipes (plastic ones can get brittle) BM3 tune (your in Cali so make sure you are good with the consequences when it comes to smog time). lowered the front to level it with the rear (Eibach, getting coils later this year hopefully). Future popular mods exhaust wheels control/thrust arms shock top mounts Mods I dont plan to do put are popular downpipes intakes Crank hub (knocks on wood) intercooler heat exchanger I could go on and on. I also suggest seaching and studying these forums. It has an unusually high level of smartly pants as far as car forums go, and has a wealth of info that is pretty easy to find. Otherwise, welcome and enjoy maintaining and modding! josh |

Quote:
-Oil change -Cabin and engine air filters -Spark plugs and potentially coil packs because of mileage -Differential fluid change -Serpentine belts, tensioner, and idler pulley -Engine and charge air coolant drain and fill (optional but highly recommended) -Brake fluid flush -DCT fluid, filters, and pan (optional but recommended by Getrag, especially if you want to keep the car for a while) If you didn’t get a pre purchase inspection get a post purchase inspection focusing on the following: Inspect bushings and mounts for engine, differential, and transmission Inspect for leaks, focus on oil filter housing gasket, valve cover, and differential and axle seals. Inspect suspension for any play and worn components Inspect brake hoses for degradation Last edited by AlmondJayRoM3; 02-08-2023 at 10:33 AM.. |
